Day 754: Stay The Course

🖤 Get well soon Tommy ! #teamrivs #RageOn 🖤

"You just stay the course, and do

what it is that you do, and grow

while you're doing it. Eventually it

will either come full circle or at

least you'll go to bed at night happy.

~ Jon Bon Jovi ~

Today is day 754 of Nutrisystem. I don't usually pay attention to anything most "celebrities" have to say since we don't really live in the same world, but this one sounded pretty sincere. JBJ is known to be pretty down to earth and he does a lot of good with what he has worked hard to attain. This is where I am today. I'm staying the course and doing what is necessary to reach my goal weight. Am I growing ? I don't know .. hard to say. Maybe I'm more self aware, does that equal growth ? I know that a lot of the trials in my life were the result of poor decisions I made. My weight was certainly no ones fault but my own. Maybe I've grown in that I place less blame elsewhere or on others. I don't plan on going full circle with this journey because that would mean being at 304 pounds again and I am NEVER going back there. So I will opt for going to bed at night happy. I'm 2 days into the week and I've met my fitness goal both days !

I haven't written about Tommy Riv's in a while because his family stopped providing updates. Yesterday his wife posted a rather lengthy update on his progress and it was good and bad. The good news is his cancer is in remission. He remains at home working on gaining weight and regaining his strength. The bad news is he is not a candidate for a bone marrow transplant because his lung function is only at about 20% and needs to be at least 80%. Without a transplant the chance of his cancer coming back is 90% .. so it's a matter of when, not if. If and when the cancer comes back he will go through another 4-6 rounds of chemo and if he survives that and has regained enough lung function he would then be considered for transplant. We can only hope and pray he regains enough lung function before the cancer comes back. He's beaten the odds throughout his illness so it wouldn't surprise me if he beats the odds again ! Still, I'm so sad for him and his entire family. To see an elite athlete cut down like this is just horrible. He's had one bad break after another and I can relate, because I've had plenty myself. Still, nothing I've been through comes close to what he has to deal with. First he missed out on the Olympic trials due to an injury. Devastation. Then while rehabbing that injury cancer reared its ugly head. More devastation. Now to be denied a life saving transplant and knowing the cancer is just biding its time and could come roaring back at any moment. How do you keep going ? The only blessing is he is at home spending time with his wife and children. More memories are being made and I'm sure every moment is precious to all of them. Rage on Tommy !

Breakfast was a 2.8 ounce 150 calorie package of pancakes with sugar free syrup and a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit creme brulee yogurt. Morning snack was a 120 calorie chocolate shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 3.8 ounce 220 calorie pepperoni pizza melt and a chef salad. Afternoon snack was 1/2 cup cottage cheese (80 calories) and 2 Alyssa's oatmeal cookies (90 calories). Dinner was a 10.5 ounce 220 calorie pasta fagioli with riced cauliflower and roasted veggies. This was a new item and I really liked it ! I added the riced cauliflower to make it less soup-like and to fill me up ! Evening snack was a 1.8 ounce 140 calorie chocolate cupcake. Total calories for the day are 1100 and I got 80 ounces of water in.

I didn't get up early enough for a morning workout but I made up for it after work. My lunchtime workout was in Costa Rica with iFit trainer John Peel and after work was Turks & Caicos with iFit trainer Chris Clark. After dinner was a quick TED talk. I logged almost 70 minutes, 4 miles and 475 calories. I also put in 45 minutes on the Total Gym. My back was a little stiff today but I was able to use my normal treadmill speed & incline (3.1 to 3.7 mph and 4% or 3% incline). I also completed all of my usual Total Gym exercises, though I am still being very careful with the one that relies on the back muscles. That one is definitely harder right now. Fitbit says I did over 12,000 steps. Tomorrow's TED talk on my schedule is not even 5 minutes ... if I can't get that in before work then I am a total loser .. lol !!

I had no trouble logging in for work today so I had a productive day. Not as productive as I'd have liked, but productive nonetheless ! Shortly after noon the snow rolled in for a quick blast of the light fluffy variety. Looks like we got a couple of inches. I thought about going out to shovel but it's too cold out there and it really doesn't need shoveling. When I looked out and saw the snow swirling around I was so happy that I am blessed to be able to work from home full time. I do not miss the anxiety that winter used to bring ! On that note, it's time for a shower and bed because this girl is tired !
