Hello 2019 !

Mother Nature’s wind did nothing but wake me up briefly early this morning. It’s still gusting out there but it’s nothing like the sustained winds that woke me up. When I first moved into this house our power used to go out all the time. Once they changed out the transformer on our street the problem disappeared. Power outages after that were usually a blown fuse. Now that the house has been rewired and I have circuit breakers I don’t really have to worry anymore. We had a bit of rain late yesterday so all of the snow is gone, for now. We had our white Christmas and that was that. It’s 41 degrees now BUT by 9 pm tonight it’s expected to drop down to only 9 degrees ! Mother Nature and her mood swings !!
Today I plan to tackle the closet in my downstairs bedroom. Things I didn’t really know what to do with were stored in there when I moved back in and it’s time to clear it out. Tomorrow is trash day so I might as well get rid of stuff today. I guess that goes along with my “out with the old, in with the new” theme for 2019 ! The Indiana Jones marathon continues on the Paramount network today so I’ll have some decent background noise.
Started the day with a cup of coffee, one of the last I’ll have with cream and sugar. When I’m at home I typically only have 1 cup in the morning, so I don’t think it’ll be a hardship to give that up. I have had black coffee on occasion so I will switch to that if I absolutely have to have coffee. Hot tea is an option as I never add cream and sugar to that. I find tea to be a bit boring so I’ll have to look into some flavored options. I do like Earl Grey but there are lots of other flavors out there.
I can’t wait for tomorrow and the arrival of my first Nutrisystem box. I’m really hoping this program is as easy as they say it is. I scanned the list of food they plan to send in my 2nd shipment and was pleasantly surprised to see nothing that made me think “I’m not eating that”. You do have the option to customize your foods but I really want to just go with what they choose for a while, without ending up with a pile of food I won’t eat. I won’t need to buy much at the grocery store for a while ! Vegetables and cat supplies is about it !
New Year’s resolutions are the subject of many very comical meme’s and I’ve never been one to make and keep a resolution, so I’m not going to call this my New Year’s resolution. I’ve been thinking about this for some time and the catalyst really was photos taken on Christmas Eve and Christmas. I’m astounded that what I see in the mirror and what I see in photos are 2 different things. I will never understand that. I knew that my weight was creeping back up as I felt it in my clothes. At my age I worry about developing diabetes or heart disease. I worry about the impact my weight is having on my joints. So this is a long overdue change.

I know the weight loss will be significant in the early days but at some point I’m going to be frustrated when the scale fails to move. The key is to keep the numbers on the scale from increasing but I’ve been advised by a kind friend to look to the tape measure when the scale fails to show progress. Losing inches is just as important as losing pounds and I have plenty of inches to spare ! I will take and record baseline measures so that I can keep a chart. Now that I have a full length mirror I’ll also be taking daily selfies. They will be the most unflattering pictures of my life so I’m not planning on sharing them.
