The Journey Back: Day 7

“Hit the reset button. Whatever

happened yesterday, forget about it.

Get a new perspective. Today is a new

day. Fresh start, begins now.”

There's a lot of truth in today's quote. Too often in life I let my mistakes drag me down. They followed me for weeks, months, even years. It wasn't easy to let go of all the negativity and honestly, I haven't let it all go yet. I don't know that I ever will. Some things are just burned into your soul and no matter what you do, you just can't shake them. Forget about it ? Well, maybe you can temporarily but too often something will trigger one of those memories. As time has gone on they're less likely to stop my forward progress, so that's a good thing. I remind myself that I can't change the past but I'm in charge of the present and the future and that is where my energy and focus goes. If that means hitting the reset button 100 times a day, so be it. There is no limit. Reset and keep going. That's what I'm doing now. We've had all bad breaks or tough times or made bad decisions but it's within all of us to change. So yeah, forget about it. Get a new perspective. Make a fresh start. Begin now !

Today is Day 1095 of Nutrisystem. 163 days since I reached my goal weight. I maintained it for a while but as you know I've gained some weight and I'm working to get it back off, so it's Day 7 of that effort. It feels good to be back in the Nutrisystem groove and losing a couple of pounds tells me I'm doing the right things. One thing I've done as I've lost weight is I've gotten rid of the clothes I outgrew. I felt like keeping larger sizes around would make it too easy to backslide. Here is some irony: my original journey started on Christmas Day 2018, when I finally realized just how heavy I was. Well, exactly 3 years later I could not find a pair of jeans I felt comfortable wearing for Christmas Day 2021. I ended up wearing leggings and a sweater so I could be "comfortable". I actually did check all my closets and drawers to see if I had an old pair of larger size jeans hanging around. I didn't .. and I'm glad. That was the jolt I needed to get this train back on the tracks !

Breakfast was 160 calorie waffles with sugar free syrup and an 80 calorie yogurt. Morning snack was a 120 calorie chocolate shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was something different for a change, a 240 calorie hamburger with a chef salad. Afternoon snack was the usual 80 calorie cottage cheese and 90 calorie oatmeal cookies. Dinner was a 250 calorie chicken enchilada with roasted veggies. Evening snack was a 140 calorie lemon zest cake. Total calories for the day are 1160 and I got 80 ounces of water in.

Since I've been struggling with terrible leg cramps lately I started taking a magnesium supplement today. We'll see if that helps. I bought a magnesium powder and wow .. does it ever smell and taste terrible ! It says to mix with fruit juice or a beverage of your choice but I don't think anything will mask the horrendous taste. You only use a tiny scoop so I'll be doing mag shots - mixing it with as little liquid as possible and chugging it !

On the exercise front, I didn't get on the treadmill today. I had good intentions - I put on my workout gear, turned on the treadmill and chose a workout. But it's Sunday. It's snowy and freezing cold (19 degrees and headed to 9 tonight !) and I just wasn't feeling it. So I opted to clean my house, do the laundry (there was a LOT of that !) and get ready for the week ahead by cutting up a huge chef salad and roasting a big pan of veggies. It's totally an excuse but I didn't spend the day sitting on the couch watching tv (although that was tempting!) so I'm ok with it. I used to be a slob (being honest here) so it feels nice to have a neat and clean house now. It helps that I have a lot more energy since I lost weight.

I'm so glad I did my shopping on Friday as I wouldn't have wanted to be out today ! We only got a couple inches of snow but the roads were likely a bit slippery since we went from rain yesterday to snow today. It's only going up to the teens tomorrow and tomorrow night is going to be another cold one, so I'm glad I work from home and don't have to go out in it ! I've been awake since 5 am so I'm heading for bed early to watch some tv and relax as soon as my last load of laundry is dry. It's been a great long weekend and I'm tired !
