Day 873: The Journey

🖤 Get well soon Tommy ! #teamrivs #RageOn 🖤

"Your journey to a healthier weight

is not a journey that you start and

then give up. It is a journey that

you are living every day for the

rest of your life."

Today is day 873 of Nutrisystem. I've talked before about wanting to reach the "end" of this journey. This quote brings home the fact that this journey will never be over. Oh, at some point I will stop blogging about it but I don't think I'll ever stop the focus on diet and exercise. I can't. If I do that the weight will just pile back on and I'll be right back where I started. Although I've been discouraged many times over the past 873 days I never once considered giving up. I knew that any obstacle was just a temporary delay and sometimes those obstacles became a teaching moment. I've had to be more patient. I've had to relax the expectations I put on myself. I've had to scale back some goals to make them more reachable and in turn, motivational. I've had to accept that some things won't change. I've had to accept my limitations. I've had to accept that I may be changing but that doesn't mean everything else in my life will change. I've had to accept that not everyone will be happy for me. The old cliche about walking a mile in someone else's shoes comes to my mind frequently, because unless you've struggled with your weight or fitness or depression or money or abuse or alcohol or drugs or whatever, you can't really fully understand how much any one of those things can devastate your life. Imagine trying to deal with a bunch of them all at once. I did and I have a great deal more sympathy for those who are struggling today. Some of us find our way out of the darkness and some of us don't. I happen to be one of the lucky ones and for that I will always be grateful. This journey really started as a quest to lose the weight but it evolved into something that has healed so much of the pain in my past. In the end I just needed to start taking care of myself.

Breakfast was a 150 calorie pancakes with sugar free syrup and an 80 calorie Light & Fit strawberry cheesecake yogurt. Morning snack was a 120 calorie vanilla shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 220 calorie pepperoni pizza melt with a chef salad. Afternoon snack was 1/2 cup cottage cheese (80 calories) and 2 Alyssa's oatmeal cookies (90 calories). Dinner was a 220 calorie bbq recipe caramelized onion & bacon flatbread and roasted veggies. Evening snack was a 140 calorie lemon zest cake. Total calories for the day are 1100 and I got 80 ounces of water in.

First workout of the day was another old video with iFit trainer Tommy Rivs in San Diego, CA. It was filmed in December 2019, not long before his cancer was diagnosed. Second (and last) was the end of the Zimbabwe series with iFit guide Mick Davie. I barely made it through the workout and just didn't have the energy to attempt another one tonight. I logged 72 minutes, 4.3 miles and 494 calories. I skipped the Total Gym as well. Fitbit says I did over 12,000 steps.

It was warm enough today to spend the entire day working on the front porch. We had some brief rain around 6:30 but then it cleared right up. My workday was busy as usual but I got a lot accomplished. Three days to vacation ! Tonight I'm unusually tired so I'm going to bed early. I think my Sunday exercise and my late nights have caught up to me. I go to bed relatively early but then I watch tv or play games on my tablet and the next thing you know it's midnight ! So tonight I ran out of gas for exercise and by 8 pm I could barely keep my eyes open. A giant glass of wine might have had something to do with that ! So, on that note it's time for a shower and bed.
