Day 872: My Own Mountain

🖤 Get well soon Tommy ! #teamrivs #RageOn 🖤

"Everybody has their own Mount

Everest they were put on this earth

to climb."

— Seth Godin

Today is day 872 of Nutrisystem. Mount Everest came to mind today because of a workout series I'm doing. Setting out to lose 154 pounds was certainly my own personal Mount Everest. Paying off my credit card debt also seemed as daunting as a climb up Everest would be. Getting physically fit was yet another mountain to climb. Looking back, it was pretty ambitious to tackle all 3 mountains at the same time but that is me: all or nothing. These were the 3 things causing the most trouble in my life and I wanted to change that. I was just tired of the struggle. Signing up for Nutrisystem was the best decision I have ever made. I was able to focus on paying off my debt and getting fit mostly because they took the guesswork out of what to eat. With portions and calories controlled the weight loss part of the journey was relatively simple. Considering what we've all been through over the past year I'm glad I had these things to focus on. I am hoping we are more back to normal by 2022 and I am so looking forward to dumping the mask on June 25. When the vaccines first came out I was dead set against getting it. I felt like they were hastily developed and hadn't been adequately tested. The liability waiver troubles me too. In the end I decided to get it because the time will probably never be right .. and I've already wasted years of my life waiting for the time to be right .. for everything ! Truth is, the time is never going to be right when it comes to this vaccine. Do you wait 5 years to see what happens and hope you don't get COVID while you're waiting ? I wasn't willing to take that chance. I don't want to get COVID and I'm tired of living in fear of it. I'm also tired of the mask. So I'm glad I started the process. A couple of days with a sore arm was a small price to pay for a little bit of peace of mind. It remains to be seen how I will react to the second dose. It could be just another couple days of a sore arm or a couple days of fever and malaise. Again, small price to pay. However it goes the long term benefits far outweigh a couple days of not being 100%. I intend to be fully prepared for a couple days on the couch. I'm getting the second dose on 6-11 so I intend to grocery shop right afterward so I'll be all set for the week ahead. I already have cold & flu remedies in the house so I can treat any symptoms. I've been sharing my experience to take a little bit of the fear factor out of it and I was happy to hear about other people's experiences ! I understand the fear. Even though I decided to take the plunge it doesn't mean I don't still worry about the long term effects. I do. We are indeed participating in a gigantic clinical trial. It was just the right decision for me and I still believe it is a personal choice. My hope is that my entire family opts to get vaccinated but I'm not going to judge anyone who doesn't, nor am I going to pressure them. For me this is just one more mountain to climb and the decision was not an easy one. In the end I thought about the fact that every year scientists "roll the dice" with a flu vaccine. They guess what strains might pop up and throw together a vaccine ! Sometimes they get lucky .. sometimes, not so much. I had the flu in January 2018 even though I got the flu shot in the fall of 2017 ! I had to wonder how much sicker I'd have been without the flu shot. That seasonal flu knocked me flat for several weeks so I wasn't willing to take a chance on COVID, which has the potential to be much, much worse. I just want to get back to living my life now that I've lost the weight and feel better about myself and in order to do that safely I felt like the vaccine was right for me. It's really just another mountain I had to climb.

Breakfast was a 160 calorie buttermilk waffles with sugar free syrup and an 80 calorie Light & Fit lemon meringue yogurt. Morning snack was a 120 calorie chocolate shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 220 calorie pepperoni pizza melt with a chef salad. Afternoon snack was 1/2 cup cottage cheese (80 calories) and 2 Alyssa's oatmeal cookies (90 calories). Dinner was a 200 calorie chicken with lemon sauce and roasted veggies. Evening snack was a 140 calorie lemon zest cake. Total calories for the day are 1090 and I got 80 ounces of water in.

First workout of the day was Zimbabwe with iFit guide Mick Davie. Second was Mount Everest with iFit guide Ang Tshering Lama. Last was an old video with iFit trainer Tommy Rivs in San Diego, CA. It was filmed in December 2019, not long before his cancer was diagnosed. I logged 92 minutes, 5.3 miles and 629 calories. I also spent some time on the Total Gym for a lower body workout. Fitbit says I did over 17,000 steps.

It was a chilly 46 degrees when I got up this morning ! It was warm upstairs but I put the heat back on for a couple hours in the downstairs just to take the chill off. By about 10 it was warm enough to shut off the heat and move out to the front porch so that's where I spent the rest of the day. My workday was as busy as usual and although I got a lot done there is still plenty more on my plate for tomorrow ! On that note it's time for a shower and bed.
