Day 750: The Storm
🖤 Get well soon Tommy ! #teamrivs #RageOn 🖤
Today is day 750 of Nutrisystem. I woke up to a back that is feeling better but not 100% quite yet. Still, this went a long way towards starting the day off right ! If you haven't noticed, I tend to be impatient in some areas of my life and this is one of them. I don't have time to be sick or injured. I have goals to accomplish and every time I hit an obstacle I get even more frustrated. The problem with that is being frustrated doesn't help resolve the issue. In fact, it doesn't help at all. It makes more sense to just accept what is going on and do what you can until you can get back on the road. One day without exercise is not the end of the world. I probably could have forced myself onto the treadmill at a super slow speed yesterday but would that have been the right thing to do ? I think the day of rest did me good because today I was looking forward to working out. For a long time exercise was a chore. It wasn't something I looked forward to. I'd rather do anything but exercise. That has started to change and I'm starting to make some gains when it comes to consistency. That's why this enforced break was frustrating. I don't trust myself enough to get right back on track as soon as I'm feeling better, because it's proven difficult in the past. 2021 is all about gaining consistency and reaching my goal weight !
Breakfast was a 2.5 ounce 160 calorie package of buttermilk waffles with sugar free syrup and a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit Crème Brûlée yogurt. Morning snack was a 120 calorie vanilla shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 1.7 ounce 200 calorie three cheese chicken. This is one of those lunch in a cup deals and you add about 6 ounces of water so the cooked weight is more like 7 or 8 ounces. I also had a chef salad. Afternoon snack was 1/2 cup cottage cheese (80 calories) and 2 Alyssa's oatmeal cookies (90 calories). Dinner was a 9 ounce 250 calorie chicken enchilada with some leftover riced cauliflower and freshly roasted veggies. Evening snack was a 2.2 ounce 140 calorie lemon zest cake. Total calories for the day are 1120 and I got 64 ounces of water in.
We had some heavy wet snow overnight and I was able to shovel off my front steps and the area in front of my garage and side door this morning. I was careful, pushed a lot of snow and made sure to bend the knees when I lifted the shovel because it was so heavy. The driveway was plowed to finish the job and then I went back out and cleaned it up. Temps are going to drop into the teens tonight and if I didn't get the job done today it would all freeze solid and be impossible to move. Once I got that done I took an 800 mg Ibuprofen and put the heating pad on my back.
Around 2 pm I decided to give the treadmill a try. I started in Costa Rica with iFit trainer John Peel and my usual 3.1 mph pace with 2% incline instead of 4%. It was quickly apparent I wouldn't be able to sustain that pace so about 8 minutes in I dropped the speed to 2.7 mph but boosted the incline to 4%. The last 6 minutes I increased the speed to 2.8 mph. It was a start ! Around dinnertime I spent 24 minutes in Turks & Caicos with iFit trainer Stacie Clark. I put the incline at 4% for the entire workout and did 2.7 mph the first half and 2.8 mph the second half. I logged 50 minutes, 2.3 miles and 287 calories. After dinner I spent about 45 minutes on the Total Gym. I was able to do all of my usual exercises except for one that relies heavily on the back muscles in addition to the abs. I was a little slower and it felt like it took a lot more effort, but I got it done and my back actually felt better afterwards ! Pushing through the pain yesterday would have been a mistake but today I think it was the right thing to do. I'd say I got plenty of exercise since I shoveled snow twice, hit the treadmill twice and used the Total Gym. Fitbit says I did over 13,000 steps !
We had flurries on and off all day but around 4 pm the lake effect machine cranked up and it really started to come down hard. It's that light fluffy stuff so it's easy to shovel but it can pile up fast ! We got a couple of inches before it was all said and done and I suspect the snow is here to stay now. There's no snow in the forecast for the weekend so I'm hoping to make tomorrow a casino day with mom. I enjoyed my day off and I'm looking forward to the weekend ! On that note it's time for some Abby snuggles and then a shower and a date with my heating pad and my bed !
