Day 636: There Is Always Something
It's day 636 of Nutrisystem. Stephen Hawking struggled with ALS for decades so he knew something about getting past your difficulties and finding something you can succeed at. I look at all he achieved despite his physical limitations and I wish I had done so many things differently in my own life. Since I can't get those years back all I can do now is make the best of every day now. Losing the weight is opening a whole new chapter for me and I intend to enjoy it as much as I can. I don't know what the future holds but I suspect it will be better than the last 20 years was.
Not much news on Tommy Rivs today. It's possible the effects of the chemo are setting in and I remember that abyss all too well. Hopefully his recovery will hit an upswing again soon and we'll hear more about his progress. For now we hope, we pray and we Rage On !
Breakfast was a 2.1 ounce 160 calorie cherry cheese roll and a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit lemon meringue yogurt. The last one of this flavor :( Morning snack was a 120 calorie vanilla shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 3.8 ounce 220 calorie pepperoni pizza melt and a chef salad. Afternoon snack was a honey crisp apple and the last of the maple bacon cheddar cheese. I logged this snack at 200 calories. Dinner was a 7.5 ounce 220 calorie chicken fettuccine alfredo served over riced cauliflower. Evening snack was a 1.8 ounce 140 calorie chocolate cupcake. Total calories for the day are 1140 and I got 64 ounces of water in.
It was raining when I woke up and I could easily have laid in bed all day and listened to the rain. Since that wasn't an option I got up, had the hot part of my breakfast and hit the treadmill. First workout of the day was the last in the HIIT interval series with iFit trainer Gideon Akande. As I've done with all the rest in this series I split it into three 10 minute segments after a short warm up. I started at 3.1 mph, then increased to 3.3 and finally to 3.5 mph. This workout was a little different when it came to the incline. It started with four 30 second intervals at 6% incline. After a short break there were four 45 second intervals at 4% incline. After another break we ended with four 1 minute intervals at 2%. The nice thing about this is the lowest incline coincided with my highest speed. So I didn't work quite as hard as yesterday but I still got a good sweat going during those 32 minutes ! My lunchtime workout was a 20 minute TED talk with Dan Buettner titled "How To Live To Be 100+". After a short warm up I broke this one into two 9 minute segments. I started at 3.3 mph and then increased to 3.5 mph. I also set the incline at 3% for the duration. I felt like I worked hard but I didn't even break a sweat ! I enjoyed his talk but I didn't agree with one of the last things he said. He said that diets don't work. Well, I'm living proof of the fact that they do. He also said most people who make a New Year's resolution to exercise will give up by October. I initially disagreed but after thinking about it I think he is right ! Most of my New Year's resolutions never made it out of January ! After work was a 33 minute interval walk along Coronado Beach in San Diego CA with iFit trainer Aria Song. It was a pyramid of intervals that started at 1 minute and increased by 1 minute until we hit a 4 minute interval. Then it went back the other direction from 4 to 3 etc. Each interval was separated by a 1 minute recovery at 2.7 mph. The programmed pace of the intervals bounced around from 3.1 to 3.4 so I just overrode that and did 3.4 mph for each interval. It was a fun walk ! I logged 84 minutes, 4.4 miles and 450 calories. Fitbit says IO did almost 16,000 steps today. I opted to take the night off from the Total Gym to begin focusing on getting myself ready for the wedding. My left shoulder is also very sore today so I gave that a break as well. Looks like my upper body is not ready for Level 3 on the Total Gym !
I'll be dressing for the wedding away from home so I have to make sure I take everything I will need with me. I am not in the wedding (it's a small intimate affair) but I will be in the pictures and I want to look nice. Tonight I wanted to give my feet some love so I used my Total Gym time for that. It's a good thing there wasn't much polish left on my toenails .. because I discovered that non-acetone nail polish remover is useless ! Throwing it away and buying some of the good stuff on my next shopping trip !
It was cool and rainy all morning but the sun came out for a little while in the late afternoon. I spent the day working out on the front porch. I also had dinner out there. I'm going to miss it when it gets colder but I'll be glad to be warm and dry in the house ! On that note it is long past my bedtime so it's time for a hot shower and then it's off to dreamland.
