Day 633: Try Again
It's day 633 of Nutrisystem. That quiet voice whispered to me last night .. just before I fell asleep on the couch. I was more tired yesterday than I've been in a long time and I think it's just because I didn't get enough sleep all week and I was pushing myself hard on the treadmill. For the week ahead I plan to put a little more effort towards getting to sleep at a more consistent time. I go to bed early but then end up playing a game on my tablet or something on tv catches my interest and before I know it midnight has come and gone. I don't feel like I'm overdoing the exercise because I feel good when I exercise and I recover pretty quickly. I'm lacking sleep and that catches up to you. So I need to consider the occasional rest day and just get back to it the very next day. Even today I woke up tired and that's because I fell asleep on the couch last night and finally took myself off to bed around 3 am. Didn't get a shower, didn't even brush my teeth .. I just stumbled off to bed and passed out.
Update from Tommy Rivs brother today indicates Tommy is sitting, standing with the help of the sara lift, doing leg extensions and working hard to wean off the ventilator. The fact that he's making such progress during a round of chemo kind of gives you hope for the future. I think cancer picked the wrong guy to mess with ! Rage on Tommy !
Breakfast was a 2.8 ounce 150 calorie package of homestyle pancakes with sugar free syrup and a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit strawberry cheesecake yogurt. Morning snack was a 120 calorie chocolate shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 4 ounce 230 calorie spinach & cheese pretzel melt with a chef salad. I did not have an afternoon snack. Dinner was a 4.7 ounce 250 calorie meatloaf sandwich with roasted veggies. Since I had some extra calories I added a little ketchup to the sandwich. Evening snack was a 1.6 ounce 130 calorie red velvet cupcake. Total calories for the day are 960 and I'm working on getting 40 ounces of water in before I go to bed.
As I mentioned, I was still tired when I finally got up this morning. I took a shower to get the blood flowing and also put fresh sheets on my bed. Since I didn't do most of my errands yesterday I ended up doing that today. It was a warm sunny day so I was glad to be out and about in the sunshine ! I went to Christmas Tree Shops in search of a vinyl tablecloth for the table on my front porch. I ended up with several tablecloths and some fall decor to dress up the porch. I also found the perfect table lamp for the porch. In the store it looked blue but when I got it home I realized it was more of a bluish gray. Regardless, it matches the curtains perfectly ! I also found sugar free zero calorie syrups and latte foam's for coffee ! What caught my eye was the peppermint mocha latte foam. I used to live on peppermint mocha coffee mate during the holiday season and it's one of the few things I really miss. I bought several bottles of the syrup and several of the foam's. I tried the toasted hazelnut syrup with the salted caramel foam and it was too sweet, so it looks like I need to go with one or the other or less of each. I only used a teaspoon of the syrup but overenthusiastic me used about 6 pumps of the foam even though the bottle says 3. For my 2nd cup of coffee I just added 3 pumps of the foam and that was much better. It added a tiny bit more flavor to french vanilla coffee without adding an overpowering sweetness. I also found a box of crackers made with cauliflower that meet Nutrisystem's guidelines and one serving is 50 crackers ! I'm thinking the crackers must be the size of a fingernail. I only bought one box to try. Next stop was Petco for some flea treatment for my cats and some new treats. I stopped at Delta Sonic for gas and only paid $1.87 .. lowest price I've seen in a while ! Last stop was Walmart in Central Square. I noticed today they have both entrances open again, they no longer have directional indicators on the floor and the dressing rooms are open again ! They do have employees monitoring the door so they are still counting how many go in vs how many go out. They've also extended their hours to 10 pm now. Other than the masks the store seemed pretty normal again. I picked up a couple new pairs of leggings for winter and a few other things I didn't really need. I know a lot of people buy "$performance$" exercise gear but I just love the leggings I get at Walmart for $6.98 ! They are super soft and so comfortable ! I also love the Avia sports bra's that are $9.98. I nearly fell into the trap of buying expensive workout gear once the weight started coming off, but I reminded myself I'm exercising at home where no one sees me ... so why do I need Fabletics or Lululemon or other "name brand" gear ? I rarely wear any of it outside the house and if I do I'm usually just going to Walmart anyway. So I avoided that money pit and don't feel bad if I splurge on a couple new pairs now and then. The only item on my list that I couldn't get today was the Light & Fit lemon meringue yogurt. I guess that special summer flavor is done and I'm going to miss it. Key Lime is gone too. They have pumpkin pie and banana cream flavor out but I'm not a pumpkin fan or a banana fan. I ended up buying some caramel apple pie flavor and some tiramisu flavor.
It was after 5 pm by the time I got home and I spent the rest of the day putting things away, dressing up the porch and doing some other things that needed doing around the house. Exercise was not in the cards today. I will get back to that tomorrow and I'm not worried about my 2 day break. I will work hard Monday thru Wednesday this week but I'm off Thursday and Friday for my brother's wedding, so I'll have another break from exercise. I'm also taking a break from the scale for a couple weeks since I'll be eating out Thursday, Friday and probably Saturday. Sunday October 4th I'll be hitting the treadmill hard and getting back to my normal routine.
I couldn't tell you why I needed this little break now, but I can tell you I've had my foot on the gas for so long that it was just time to slow down, rest and reset. Die hard fitness junkies would say you can't do that but I'll never be one of those and for me it was necessary and I don't regret it. If I burn myself out and walk away from exercise I'll never go back - that much I know. I can recover from a 2 day break and get right back to it and that is what I plan to do. I've been spending nearly every free minute exercising and that's just not sustainable. If I had to go to the office every day I wouldn't be spending 90 minutes on the treadmill and 45 on the Total Gym 5-6 days a week so I recognize what a luxury it is. During the week I get up early to exercise, spend half of my lunch hour exercising and then spend 80-90 minutes exercising after work. Every now and then it just stacks up and I have to stop and breathe. Like I said in yesterday's post, I felt pressured and stressed and it was all my own doing. Yet again I was putting all these demands on myself for more more more to the point that exercise was becoming a dreaded chore. Right now I'm looking forward to getting back at it in the morning. I reworked my iFit schedule and I'm ready to hit the ground running .. well, at least walking fast.
I had a great weekend. Spending time with my mom is always priceless and today it was fun to just go out and shop and enjoy the day. I hadn't been to Christmas Tree Shops in several years so that was a fun adventure. I'll be heading back there when the Christmas decor is out ! I was sluggish and tired this morning but after my shopping trip my energy was back where it usually is, so I feel ready to face the day tomorrow.
Even though I showered this morning I'll be taking another one before bed since I put fresh sheets on the bed this morning. I just cannot get into a freshly made bed without being freshly showered. That is just me ! On that note, I'm heading to bed !
