Day 574: Your Life
"Your life is a result of the choices you
make. If you don't like your life, it is
time to start making better choices."
It's Day 574 of Nutrisystem. It took me a long time to accept the fact that my life was the result of choices I made. For years I blamed everyone but myself. I was the long suffering "victim". The whole world was against me. Nothing was my fault. In reality I just gave up on my life and on myself. The road back seemed too long and too hard and it seemed like every step forward resulted in 2 going backward. Kind of like those credit card balances that never seemed to decrease. Well duh, if you keep using them the balance won't decrease. Same goes for my weight. As long as you keep shoveling in the calories you won't lose weight. As long as you're sitting on the couch you won't get fit. So in December of 2018 I finally realized that I needed to start making better choices. It's nice to be able to see the end in sight. I'm less than 14 pounds away from my goal weight. I am fitter than I have ever been. My last credit card will be paid in full by the end of the year. My early goal for 2021 is to start paying down my car loan or my mortgage, I haven't decided which to tackle yet. The car payment is higher than the mortgage so I may go with that. It's kind of ironic that I'm already thinking about 2021 goals considering I've never stuck to any goal for very long. To actually achieve a major goal will be a huge accomplishment. Losing 154 pounds - when I reach my goal weight - will probably be the happiest day of my life. Having all of my credit card debt paid in full will be a close second, because I've had credit card debt since I was old enough to have a credit card ! As I've shared over the past 574 days I've celebrated a lot of mini goals along the way. Getting under 200 pounds was huge ! Getting out of plus size clothes was huge. Getting out of clothes with "teen" or "X" in the size was huge. Getting out of wide width shoes was an unexpected surprise. Being able to cross my legs was something I never thought about while I was fat .. but once I could do it I realized I liked it ! From a fitness perspective, most of my aches and pains are gone. My hip can bother me once in a while but it's nothing like it was before. I can now lift & bend my left leg enough to pull my sock off while standing, without excruciating pain. The Total Gym workouts have helped strengthen the hip flexor that was causing the pain and limited range of motion that I've had for years. That's not to say that all 574 days of this journey have been perfect. I made mistakes along the way. I didn't always make the best choices. I guess that is what makes me human. I'm not perfect and never will be. If I can make the right choices most of the time I think I'll be ok. I know now that better choices mean a better life.
No change in Tommy Riv's condition. Still sedated, still on ECMO but his oxygen sats have been good the past couple of days. It's apparent that his wife's heart is breaking and mine breaks for her and their girls. I know she's afraid of losing him. We all are. Meanwhile he continues to fight and we haven't given up.
Breakfast was a 2.1 ounce 160 calorie cherry cheese roll and a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit strawberry cheesecake yogurt. Morning snack was a 120 calorie vanilla shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was something new, a 4 ounce 240 calorie hamburger. It wasn't bad. I added a little bit of ketchup and some onion powder for flavor. I also had a chef salad. Afternoon snack was a 1.42 ounce 190 calorie Nature Valley peanut butter dark chocolate protein bar. Dinner was a 5 ounce 210 calorie mushroom stuffed chicken breast with roasted veggies. Evening snack was a 1.8 ounce 140 calorie chocolate cupcake. Total calories for the day are 1140 and I got 64 ounces of water in.
Booted myself out of bed at about 6:40 this morning and started the day with a 32 minute walk at the base of Camelback Mountain in Phoenix, AZ with iFit trainer John Peel. Tomorrow we tackle the mountain itself ! There was no incline and the pace was a steady 2.7 mph. My lunchtime workout was a 25 minute interval hike in the red rocks of St. George, UT with iFit trainer Ashley Paulson. She's an endurance athlete and always finds some incline ! The intervals were 30 seconds at 2.6 mph with 1 minute recoveries at 2.2 mph so the incline was manageable. Most was 5% or less. After work was a 25 minute 2.5 mph walk around downtown Tokyo, Japan with iFit guide Masato Niitsu. This was the last in the series. Tokyo reminded me a bit of Times Square in NYC in that it's full of restaurants and shops, many of which cater to tourists. I didn't really get a lot of history out of this series but the guide was so cute it didn't matter. I logged 82 minutes, 3.4 miles and 334 calories. After dinner I put in the usual 45-50 minutes on the Total Gym.
Once I was "done" with work and exercise for the day I sat out on the front porch to enjoy a cup of coffee and my evening snack. It's hard to believe tomorrow is Friday already ! This week has just flown by. Weather was pleasant today and tomorrow looks to be nothing but sunshine and blue skies, so you know I'll be spending another day on the front porch ! I had to retreat just after 4 pm today because it got too hot.
On that note, it's time for a shower and then some tv in bed. TGIF !
