"Strength has nothing to do with

 external performance. It has everything

 to do with internal belief."

~Dolvett Quince~

It's Day 571 of Nutrisystem. Strength was on my mind for a lot of reasons today so this quote was perfect for the day. You can have all the physical strength in the world but if you don't believe in yourself you'll never reach your full potential. I still struggle with the internal beliefs. Will I be able to reach my goal weight ? Will I be able to keep the weight off ? Will I ever be happy with the way I look ? I'd like to think the answer to all 3 is a resounding yes, but I'm not sure. I can tell myself yes, yes, yes but I also have to put in the work to make that happen. Getting out from under my dilemma with Nutrisytem's calorie recommendations is a huge step in that direction. Settling into my exercise routine is helping too. Every day it's a little easier to stay consistent. I'm working on body image too and really the only things that are bothering me now is my "bat wing" upper arms and my hair. I'm hoping the muscle I'm building on the Total Gym will help the bat wings and I'm trying hard to grow my hair out. It is not easy because I really liked the short wash and go no fuss hair that I had for years. Right now it's not long enough to style the way I want it and it's too long to style the way I used to. My hair also isn't as thick as it used to be, so that is a concern. I can thank genetics and menopause for that ! So I'm not sure what I will do with it when it's long enough to decide on a style. I'm going to let it grow until my brother's wedding in October but don't be surprised if I end up cutting it all off after that !

Tommy Rivs is hanging in there but nothing else has changed when it comes to his condition. Still on ECMO, still sedated, still fighting. The fitness world and his local community is rallying around him and his family and doing everything they possibly can to eliminate some of the worry and stress of mounting medical bills. This is going to be a long, hard and expensive fight !

Breakfast was a 2.1 ounce 160 calorie cherry cheese roll and a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit tiramisu yogurt. Morning snack was a 120 calorie chocolate shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 3.8 ounce 220 calorie pepperoni pizza melt with a chef salad. Afternoon snack was a 1.42 ounce 200 calorie Nature Valley salted caramel nut protein bar. Dinner was a 5 ounce 210 calorie mushroom stuffed chicken breast with roasted veggies. Evening snack was a 2.1 ounce 130 calorie carrot cupcake. Total calories for the day are 1120 and I got about 80 ounces of water in since it was so hot today. Today I could count the calories in my extras and still be under 1200 !

It seems like changing my weekday alarm to 6 am has made a difference. I can snooze it a couple times and then boot myself out of bed at 6:30 - which gives me plenty of time to have breakfast and get a workout in before work. Today I started off the day with a 33 minute hike to Shobak Castle in Shobak, Jordan with iFit guide Fadi Abu Jaber. This was the last in the series and I was kind of sad about that ! The pace was 2.5 mph but it slowed during the steep inclines, and there was plenty of that since the castle sits on top of a mountain ! I will definitely repeat this series. My lunchtime workout was a 30 minute interval hike on Chuckwalla Trail in St. George, Utah with iFit trainer Ashley Paulson. It consisted of 30 second intervals at 2.6 mph and 60 second recoveries at 2.2 mph. There was a fair amount of incline in the 5-6% range and a short burst of 10% towards the end. The slower pace was good for a hot, muggy day. After work I completed the first walk in a new series. We walked through the Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo, Japan with iFit guide Masato Niitsu. He seemed very sweet but I couldn't understand most of what he said and the market was very crowded. Hopefully the rest of the series will offer some scenic views and maybe a little history. He was clearly very happy to be leading the camera crew through the market and definitely proud of his Japanese heritage. The pace was an easy 2.5 mph and it was only 22 minutes. I logged 85 minutes, 3.2 miles and 390 calories. After dinner I put in the usual 45-50 minutes on the Total Gym and then called it a day !

I still haven't decided on a new scale yet. I'm leaning towards one that is not "smart". The last thing I need is another app to track useless statistics. All I really need from a scale is my weight, plain and simple. I'm not worried about what my weight might be because the last time I pulled on those size 12 jeans I could tell they were looser. I also bought a new pair of size 12's from a different brand and they're too big ... so I'll be exchanging them for a size 10. Until recently the only thing I ever bought in a size 10 was a shoe .. lol ! I don't have size 10 feet but when you're heavy you sometimes have to go bigger in order to have them fit. That's not to say I have tiny baby feet ... my natural size is 9 or 9.5 but I don't need wide width anymore !

I worked on the front porch until around 4:30. It didn't really get super hot until late in the afternoon and there was a nice breeze all day. It clouded up at one point and looked like it would rain but it never did. The clouds passed and the sun came back out. I had breakfast, lunch and dinner on the porch and sat out there after my workout day was done to enjoy the rest of the evening. I really enjoyed my Monday ! That's a far cry from the days I used to drag myself out of bed, trek to the office, watch the clock until 5 rolled around and then rush home to sit on the couch until bedtime. Looks like the rest of the week isn't going to be quite so warm so I'm going to enjoy the little break from the heat !

On that note I'm heading for a shower and bed.
