Day 543: Showing Up For Me
"If you are not showing up for yourself,
who are you showing up for ?"
It's Day 543 of Nutrisystem. When I started this journey it was about getting healthy. At the time it was all about physical health because I knew if I kept eating the way I was, it was only a matter of time before my health would decline. My body was already suffering but I had no officially diagnosed medical conditions .. other than morbid obesity ! That's such an ugly word. Obese. Morbidly obese is even uglier. I'm less than 10 pounds from a "normal" BMI - 154 is the high end of the range for my height. I will no longer carry the morbidly obese, obese or overweight label once I get to 154 or less. I'll be "normal", whatever that is ! When I started this journey at 304 pounds I probably had high blood pressure and was heading towards heart disease and diabetes. So this quote struck me .. because I am showing up for me now. Everything I am doing is for me and for my health. Every day that I use an excuse to overindulge or not exercise is a day that I'm not showing up for me. Starting Nutrisystem was step 1, adding exercise was step 2 and working on my financial health was step 3. In the early days I used every excuse known to man to not exercise. My first treadmill workout lasted maybe 8 minutes. I kept coming back but the least little thing would be my "get out of jail free" card not to exercise ! After I did my first real workout on the Total Gym January 18th I spent most of the next day in bed because I was so sore. I overdid it to the point I had signs of rhabdomyolysis. I was basically peeing coffee .. that's how dark my urine was. At the time I didn't know how serious it could have been but needless to say I am perfectly fine now. I let my body rest and then started again. So my exercise journey has had plenty of ups and downs but I feel like that road is smoothing out as I get stronger. Again, I am showing up and I am showing up for me. Same goes for my financial wellness. Paying off debt has given me incredible peace of mind and a sense of accomplishment. These 3 things combined have gone a long way towards healing my battered soul. I am stronger in every sense of the word today, because I keep showing up for me.
Breakfast was a 2.1 ounce 160 calorie cherry cheese roll and a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit key lime yogurt. Morning snack/lunch/afternoon snack were all rolled into one. I had a chicken pot pie at Point Place Casino. It was just the perfect size for 1 and the crust only covered the top. I have no idea what the calorie count was but there was maybe 1.5 cups of chicken/veggie/gravy mixture in the little crock they served it in. On a normal day my snack/lunch/snack would be around 600 calories. I doubt this chicken pot pie was 600 calories so I feel like it was an okay choice. When I got home it was about 7:30 and I was hungry. I had an 8 ounce 180 calorie creamy chicken & broccoli pasta over steamed brussel sprouts. Evening snack was a 2.1 ounce 130 calorie carrot cupcake. I'm putting today's calories at 1200. I only got 32 ounces of water in.
Today was a great first day of vacation. I spent about an hour at the dentist getting my crown installed. It fit perfectly so I'm sold on the 3D imaging they used to take the impression ! I'll be going back in 3 weeks for a full exam and then they'll give me an appointment for a cleaning and any other work I need to have done. I have a broken tooth that needs a crown so that is already on the list. I'll be spending the summer at the dentist ! After the dentist I picked up my mom and we went to Point Place Casino. It was not crowded at all so we had a great day. We had a free meal and we both left winners ! I got home around 7:20 and although I was tired and hungry I forced myself to get on the treadmill. I'm glad I did because it brought my energy back ! I completed a relatively easy 31 minute walk in Arizona with my main man, iFit trainer John Peel. It was 3 minute intervals at 3 mph with 2 minute recoveries at 2.6 mph. It was tough because I was starving, but I got through it. If I had eaten first I probably wouldn't have worked out at all. There was no incline so it was perfect for a low energy day. I logged 31 minutes, 1.4 miles and 135 calories. After dinner I spent about 50 minutes on the Total Gym, so the day was not a complete loss ! I could easily have skipped the exercise tonight but I'm glad I didn't !
Since I was out all day I didn't get to spend much time on the front porch, so I had my dinner out there. Tomorrow I need to go to the grocery store and a couple other places and I want to wash my car, so I won't be spending a lot of time on the porch. I fully intend to get 3 treadmill workouts and a Total Gym session in too, so it's about time I head upstairs for a shower and bed !
