Day 505: Stay Flexible

"Stay committed to your decisions, but

 stay flexible in your approach."

 ~Tony Robbins~

It's Day 505 of Nutrisystem. I've decided to stop counting the days of "NY on Pause" since we are in the reopening phase. Today's quote is perfect for me and it's something I've actually been working on throughout this journey. I have a tendency to make lofty, impulsive goals and once I make one I have a hard time rolling it back. A good example is the thought that I could jog more on the treadmill, just because I've done a little brief jog here and there. Well, a brief 1 minute jog isn't going to become 10 or 20 minutes of continuous jogging overnight. It was hard to admit but I don't see me ever being a jogger. I will still give my all for the brief spurts of jogging in some of the workouts I do and I will continue to challenge myself, but I'm not going to waste my time chasing something I don't consider a "dream". I never dreamed of being a jogger and truthfully, I can live my life quite happily without being one .. lol ! So I'm working on being a little flexible and it seems to help keep me from abandoning my goals. For years I couldn't get anything accomplished because I had this "all or nothing" mindset.  If I couldn't do the whole task all at once I didn't do it at all. Maybe I was just using it as an excuse or maybe I was just overwhelmed by the number of "tasks" that needed doing .. but it would have made more sense to do something because  a bunch of somethings add up quickly ! Flexibility is still a work in progress.

Breakfast was a 2 ounce 180 calorie cinnamon roll. Power fuel was a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit tiramisu yogurt. Morning snack was a 155 calorie chocolate shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 4 ounce 230 calorie spinach & cheese pretzel melt with a chef salad. Afternoon snack was a 1.3 ounce 180 calorie Jif Power Ups Chocolate Peanut butter granola bar. Dinner was a new item, a 7.8 ounce 190 calorie sesame glazed beef & veggie bowl that I served over riced cauliflower. Had a nice flavor but I would have liked a little more of the "glaze". Evening snack was a 2.2 ounce 140 calorie lemon zest cake. Total calories for the day are 1185 and I got 80 ounces of water in.

I didn't get up early enough for a morning workout so the first workout of the day was #17 in the Alps incline series with iFit trainer John Peel. Most of this 22 minute workout was at max incline but the pace varied from 1.2 mph to 2.7 mph so it actually felt pretty effortless. Since my lunchtime workout was pretty easy I challenged myself to something longer and a bit more difficult after work. It was a 38 minute hike in Skagway Alaska with iFit trainer Ben Seale. This one had plenty of max incline and the pace ranged from 2.2 mph to 3.2 mph. Ben has no problem boosting the speed to 3.2 on a 10% incline so I worked up a sweat during this one ! I logged 61 minutes, 2.5 miles and 458 calories. Tonight was my official night off from the Total Gym.

I woke up with a pain free mouth this morning but I have a lot of swelling on my gums from the abscess. I had thought it would go down after the root canal but instead it has increased in size, so I'm concerned. I'll keep taking the antibiotics and see what happens over the next few days. I actually had to take some aspirin at 3:30 this morning but that was because my hip was aching and I kept waking up. I don't get that, because the hip only seems to bother me when I go to bed. Obviously it has something to do with the way I sleep so I may need to try the pillow between the knees trick. Losing some of the "padding" I used to have means different sleeping positions and quite honestly sometimes it's just not as comfortable !

Today was another beautiful sunny day ! Temp was up in the 70's and I spent most of my workday out on the front porch. I powered through a ton of work and when I logged off at 5 pm for vacation I did so knowing all my work was shipshape ! I hate leaving loose ends when I go on vacation because they usually blow up and your colleagues have to deal with it. I had to retreat from the porch by about 4:30 because the sun was sinking and it is hot shining through the windows !

Not sure what I'm going to do tomorrow as I don't need anything from the grocery store. I still have 4 heads of lettuce and all the other fixings for salad. I was eating an entire head of lettuce for lunch for a while but the lettuce available now is bigger and denser so I cannot eat a whole head. I also have enough fresh veggies to roast for a few days. I do need an oil change so I may go and do that.

On that note I'm heading for bed. I'm looking forward to sleeping in !
