Day 450: Process Life As It Is
"Peace is the result of retraining your
mind to process life as it is, rather than
as you think it should be."
~Wayne W. Dyer~
It's Day 450 of Nutrisystem and Day 13 of staying at home. A good night's sleep and a couple hours out of the house restored peace and calm to my mind. I chose this particular photo today because it's an accurate representation of where we are right now. No one knows what is around that curve ! I fully expect to be living in this twilight zone through April and perhaps beyond. At this point I'm just wishing for warmer weather so I can spend more time outside. I do still plan on doing some garden work in my yard and on work days I can take my computer outside and do my work in the fresh air. That alone would go a long way towards making this isolation more bearable.
Breakfast was a 2.1 ounce 180 calorie cinnamon roll with butter toffee coffee. Power fuel was a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit creme brulee yogurt. Morning snack was a 155 calorie chocolate shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 3.8 ounce 220 calorie pepperoni pizza melt with a chef salad. Dressing added 30 calories. Afternoon snack was a 1.42 ounce 200 calorie Nature Valley salted caramel nut bar. Dinner was a 7.5 ounce 220 calorie chicken fettuccine alfredo over riced cauliflower. Evening snack was a 2.2 ounce 140 calorie lemon zest cake. Total calories for the day are 1225. I accidentally went over because I changed my dinner entree without checking my available calories. I had planned to have a 180 calorie item. I'm actually within the recommended calories for me, which is up to 1260, but I prefer to stay at 1200 or below. I got 32 ounces of water in and I'm working on another 32 now.
As I mentioned, today was a better day because I got out of the house for a couple of hours. I decided to stay in my own county since we have less than 10 confirmed cases of the virus (I've seen a published report that says 4 and one that says 8, not sure which is accurate), so that meant no Wegmans ! I went to the post office first. Didn't have much mail but I had a package so I had to go to the counter. They have a red line on the floor you have to stand behind and they also have a plastic shield hanging from the ceiling. They look at you like you're some kind of contaminated criminal .. very creepy !! Sorry, not my fault you don't deliver my mail to my home ! Next stop was Walmart in Oswego. I decided to go there just for the drive. There were quite a few cars in the parking lot but the store didn't feel as crowded as the Cicero store tends to be, which was nice. The shelves are not quite as bare now, but the usual items (hand sanitizer, anti-bacterial soap, cleaning products, clorox wipes) are still being snapped up, as they had none. I have all that stuff so I was only looking out of curiosity. Oddly enough, garbage bags seem to be in short supply too. I'm wondering what people are doing with them. I haven't seen anyone walking around shrouded in plastic bags ! They did have baby wipes, paper towels and a small supply of toilet paper. I bought the few items I wanted and then headed to Central Square to get some of my favorite red wine. They met me at the door of the liquor store with gloved hands and advised it was curb service only - you couldn't go inside the store. Fortunately I knew exactly what item I wanted (Roscato Rosso Dolce - I keep a photo of the bottle on my phone) so I handed over my debit card and within minutes departed with 3 bottles. Since the Central Square Walmart is right across the street I went there for a couple items I couldn't find in Oswego. This store wasn't very crowded either so I spent some time browsing. I treated myself to a new nightgown for summer and picked up some headbands to wear when exercising. My hair keeps getting caught in the Total Gym flywheel ! I'm letting mine grow out, which is a good thing since all of the hair salons are closed ! I only saw one person wearing a mask while I was out and he was an older gentleman. All my travels were on local roads and traffic was pretty sparse. I got home around 1 pm. One thing I noticed everywhere I went is that very few associates are out and about in the stores, which is a good thing for them ! I don't typically use the self checkouts but I'm using them now so that people who truly need a cashier don't have to stand in line so long or with so many people.
I booted myself off the couch around 3 pm and hopped on the treadmill. First workout of the day was a 32 minute walk in the Canary Islands with iFit trainer Tommy Rivs. The pace was 2.5 mph and there was little incline so I started off at 2.8 mph. At the 10 minute mark I increased the speed to 3 mph and at 20 minutes I increased it to 3.2 mph. At the 30 minute mark I increased to 3.4 mph. That made it more of a workout. Before dinner I completed a 25 minute interval walk in Juneau, Alaska with Ben Seale. There were four 1 minute intervals at 3.2 mph with 3 minute recoveries at 2.8 mph. I logged 57 minutes, 2.8 miles and 282 calories. I did not use the Total Gym today. It just got too late - I never had dinner until 9 pm.
I ended up buying salad greens today because I have at least 5 bottles of salad dressing ! The fat free dressing I use was often hard to find so I started stockpiling it long before this virus popped up. I bought some dill pickle slices and a tub of crumbled feta cheese to make salad a little more interesting. I think my issue with salad was just plain old boredom so adding pickle slices or feta will be a nice change. I was thinking tonight what I would be doing if I wasn't on Nutrisystem. My first thought was I'd have gone to one or two drive thru fast food places while I was out today. I'd also have filled my grocery cart with cookies, chips, ice cream and plenty of chocolate bars. I'd probably have picked up a couple of pizzas and other easy to cook foods like pizza rolls, chicken tenders and potato skins. Oddly enough, no one is hoarding the stuff I used to eat ! I'd probably be gaining a pound a day and feeling like crap physically. It all goes back to my belief that (almost) everything happens for a reason. Being physically and mentally healthier is helping me get through this. Continuing to focus on following the Nutrisystem program and my exercise program keeps my mind on the positive things happening in my life, things that I can control !
Today ended up being a rainy day but at least the rain waited until I got back home ! Tomorrow is supposed to be nothing but rain but I may still go out in the garage and see what I can do out there. Otherwise I'll end up sitting on the couch half the day. The week ahead looks to be pretty crummy from a weather perspective so I guess we'll see what April brings !
Time for a hot shower and bed !
