Day 447: Kindness

"Ah, kindness. What a simple way to

tell another struggling soul that there

is love to be found in this world."

It's Day 447 of Nutrisystem but only Day 10 of staying at home. I didn't really have a theme for today until someone showed me a little kindness first thing this morning. Just a simple thank you for a job well done meant the world to me and set the tone for the day. Kindness is important today more than ever since so many people are really struggling with what is going on in the world. I've seen a lot of posts about being kind to service workers but I've always been kind and appreciative. I don't look down on anyone who is earning an honest living. I don't care if you're a janitor or an astrophysicist, I'm going to treat you both with the same level of respect. Being employed in a customer service role I am more aware of just how mean and spiteful people can be, so I've always gone out of my way to treat people the way I want to be treated: with respect and kindness. How hard is it to say thank you ? Too many people think it's ok to take out their frustrations on that server, cashier or customer service person and unfortunately those individuals often receive no support from their management because of that old saying "the customer is always right". I think it's about time to change that because the customer is NOT always right. I personally wouldn't want the business of someone who mistreated my employees. So the next time you're out shopping or dining I hope you'll go out of your way to be kind to your cashier or server , because they're going through some pretty rough times right now.

Breakfast was a 2.1 ounce cherry cheese roll with coffee. Power fuel was a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit key lime yogurt. Morning snack was a 155 calorie vanilla shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 3.8 ounce 220 calorie pepperoni pizza melt and a chef salad. Dressing added 30 calories. Afternoon snack was a piece of corn bread (100 calories) and a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit tiramisu yogurt. Dinner was a 5 ounce 210 calorie broccoli & cheese stuffed chicken breast with a bowl of roasted veggies. Evening snack was a 2.2 ounce 140 calorie lemon zest cake. Total calories for the day are 1175 and I got 64 ounces of water in.

My lunchtime workout was a tough 20 minutes of intervals and incline in Thailand with iFit trainer Bettina Gozo. Some intervals were 30 seconds and some were 1 minute ... but they were all at 3.5 mph with max incline ! Recoveries were short and the speed only dropped to 2.8 mph. After work I completed another challenging set of intervals with iFit trainer Hannah Eden in Bolivia. This 25 minute workout had two 5 minute intervals at 3.7 mph and two at 3.1 mph. Both workouts took me close to the breaking point of my endurance but I got through them and will probably repeat them ! I logged 45 minutes, 2.4 miles and 290 calories. After dinner I spent about 40 minutes on the Total Gym so I expect to sleep really well tonight !

My only regret with our current situation is the fact that I haven't seen my mom since March 15th. We talk every day but it's not the same. My sisters live closer so they've been ensuring she has groceries. Mom can't wait for the casino's to reopen because she's already stir crazy ! Question is .. what will happen when everyone goes back to their normal routines and gather in large numbers at places like malls, movie theaters, casinos and restaurants ? This is all uncharted waters so the future is uncertain. We can't go on like this for months and months - people will eventually rebel - but we also need this virus to end. I just take it day by day and do my best to stay positive. I don't read the media coverage because it's impossible to determine what is based on sound scientific principles and what is based on nothing but opinion, something they "heard" or their political stance. I'll just keep working from home until my employer says otherwise, I'll only go out when necessary and I'll continue to practice social distancing. I'll also pray for this nightmare to end !

Time now for a long hot shower and soft warm bed !
