Day 446: Acceptance

"Acceptance doesn't mean that life gets
better. It just means that my way of
living life on life's terms improves."
~Sharon E. Rainey~
It's Day 446 of Nutrisystem but only Day 9 of staying at home. I was thinking about acceptance when I woke up this morning. Sleep has been the only real escape from what's happening in the world and it all comes flooding back when you open your eyes in the morning. I've come to the conclusion that the sooner we accept this new normal, the sooner we can move on to living the best life we can under the current restrictions. It seems like all of the viruses that came before had their moment and then faded away, so I'm hoping this one does too. I keep telling myself this will pass soon (run its course, if you will) and life will go back to the way it was ... but then I think we won't ever be the same. Someone said that we have it pretty easy, holed up in our warm homes with internet, cable tv and plenty of food. While that may be true for many people, we don't have the most precious possession of all .. peace of mind. Every sneeze, every little cough and any hint of a scratchy throat or runny nose brings panic. Not long ago we'd have all dismissed those symptoms as nothing or perhaps the start of a cold but we'd have continued with our daily lives. Cold and flu season didn't make people afraid to leave their homes. Cold and flu season didn't see people losing their jobs or having their business forced into bankruptcy. Cold and flu season didn't cause panic buying and hoarding.
Breakfast was a 2.1 ounce 160 calorie cherry cheese roll with butter toffee coffee. Power fuel was a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit creme brulee yogurt. Morning snack was a 155 calorie chocolate shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 3.7 ounce grilled chicken sandwich with a chef salad. Dressing added 30 calories. Afternoon snack was a half of a turkey sandwich that I logged as 200 calories. Dinner was a 5 ounce 210 calorie mushroom stuffed chicken breast with a bowl of roasted veggies. Evening snack was a 2.2 ounce 140 calorie lemon zest cake with a glass of 1911 hard cider. Total calories are 1175 but the cider puts me over that. These are difficult times and I'm not going to sweat over the occasional glass of wine.
It was a little surreal to look outside and see a winter wonderland again but most of the snow melted today. My area didn't get nearly as much as the Syracuse area. It gave people something else to think about and talk about, so maybe it was a good thing ! Today was a John Peel kind of day on the treadmill. My lunch hour workout was a 20 minute walk in Ontario Canada. The pace was 2.6 mph but I increased that over time until I hit 3.2 mph. It had a little bit of incline but it was short lived. After work I completed a 33 minute endurance walk in New York City. The pace was 2.8 mph until the 12 minute mark, when it increased to 3 mph until the end. No incline here so it was a good walk. I logged 53 minutes, 2.5 miles and 263 calories. I did not use the Total Gym tonight.
I've mentioned that I'm getting tired of roasted veggies and the same is true of chef salad. I used to have salad 3 or 4 days a week but now I'm having it every day and with 4 heads of lettuce in the fridge, I'll be having it for a few more days ! Next time I shop I'm going back to my normal routine and only having salad a few days a week. Veggies are a big part of my success with weight loss because they make you feel full, so it's important that I change things up and keep eating plenty of them. If I want to roast some I'm going to greatly reduce the quantity so I'm not stuck eating them for 5-6 days straight.
I'm glad I have a lot of content on my DVR because it's given me plenty of tv options when there is nothing on that interests me ! Most of the time I just have the tv on for noise but I want it to be noise that interests me .. lol ! I've been spending some time playing Candy Crush style games (6 of them) so that keeps my mind active. I'm looking forward to the day this is behind us and we can get back to our lives !
On that note, I'm heading for a nice long shower and my warm cozy bed.
