Day 445: Never Give Up
It's Day 445 of Nutrisystem but it's only Day 8 of staying at home. This morning I realized that I am getting up, I'm showing up and I'm never going to give up .... but I haven't been dressing up ! I typically don't put makeup on if I'm staying home but today I decided to go ahead and put makeup on. I also slathered myself with some luxurious scented body lotion for a little aromatherapy. It made the day seem a whole lot more normal and gave me a much needed boost ! I can't say I "dressed up" what I'm wearing, since I've been wearing my exercise gear most days, but at least I'm not sitting here in my pajamas. Putting on my exercise gear motivates me to keep getting on the treadmill ! I suspect I'll be working from home full time for a few months since it's really unknown how long this "social distancing" needs to continue. This is uncharted territory for every single one of us so we're all making it up as we go along !
Breakfast was a 2.1 ounce 180 calorie cinnamon roll. Power fuel was a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit toasted coconut vanilla yogurt. Morning snack was a 155 calorie vanilla shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 4 ounce 220 calorie spinach & cheese pretzel melt with a chef salad. Dressing added 30 calories. Afternoon snack was a small turkey sandwich that I counted as 185 calories. Dinner was a 7.5 ounce 220 calorie chicken fettuccine alfredo over riced cauliflower. I also had a bowl of roasted veggies. Evening snack was a 2.1 ounce 130 calorie cream filled chocolate cupcake with a cup of hazelnut coffee. Total calories for the day are 1200 and I got 64 ounces of water in.
I was surprised to wake up to snow this morning ! At first it was only a dusting that pretty much melted by late morning but then it cranked up again and we probably have an inch or two out there now ! Since I'm not going anywhere I haven't been checking the forecast as much as I used to. I was brewing my evening cup of coffee and looking out the window at the snow and The Wizard of Oz movie came to mind. Remember when Dorothy, the Lion and Toto fall asleep in the poppy field and the snow makes it all better ? I kind of wished the snow would make our current situation better.
On a more positive note, I got a full day of workouts in. During my lunch hour I completed #8 of 9 in the Zion National Park series with Rachel Ross. The pace of this 18 minute hike was 2.5 mph but I gradually boosted it up to 3.2 in order to get more of a workout. There were some brief inclines but it never went beyond 6%. I'll definitely do this series again because I enjoyed the scenery, the pace and the guide. Before dinner I completed a studio workout with iFit trainer Stacie Clark. The background noise wasn't quite as exuberant so it made for a more enjoyable experience. This 22 minute workout is part of her introduction to running series so it made you work. It had 30 second intervals at 3 and 3.2 mph in front of 1 minute jogs at 4.5 mph. I felt like the jog was a little easier because I'm starting to find my stride. By the end of the 4th jog I was running out of steam but was pretty happy to have done it ! I logged 40 minutes, 2 miles and 263 calories. After dinner I spent about 40 minutes on the Total Gym. I thought about skipping it but I'm glad I didn't, because I felt so good afterwards !
When this first started I was having trouble sleeping and it was difficult to get up in the morning. As much as I didn't want to admit it, there was some anxiety and depression over what was happening. My life was out of control for so long and once things got better I didn't expect to ever be back there again. So I really hated the feelings of helplessness that were coming back when this virus exploded. I think now I've reached the point of accepting our new normal and I'm making the best of it. I'm sleeping easier and it's been pretty easy to get up in the morning for work. I'm usually awake when the alarm goes off and don't have to drag myself out of bed. I'm getting up with a positive outlook on the day no matter what. I refuse to live in fear again.
On that note, I'm about ready for a shower and bed !
