Day 444: Take Care of Yourself

"It's not selfish to love yourself, take

care of yourself, and to make your

 happiness a priority. It's necessary."

 ~Mandy Hale~

It's Day 444 of Nutrisystem but it's only Day 7 of staying at home. Grocery shopping yesterday got me out of the house long enough to not feel isolated. Waking up to blue skies and sunshine guaranteed the day would start on a good note, even though it was pretty cold outside ! I'd like to think we're done with temps in the 20's but who knows. I chose this quote today because I think it's important to acknowledge that it's okay to be thinking about yourself these days. We've all been put in a situation that none of us have experienced before and taking care of yourself needs to be the #1 priority, whenever possible. I spent many years taking care of everyone but myself and the day I started Nutrisystem was the day I decided it was time to put me first. Despite the current state of the world I'm not willing to change that. Even if you have a family to think about, you still have to take care of yourself so that you can be there to take care of them. I only have a responsibility to myself but my siblings and I have a shared responsibility to care for my mom. I can't participate in that if I don't take care of me. I've found that taking care of me has resulted in happiness by default. For years I thought the "things" I didn't have were the reason I was unhappy. Turns out it had nothing to do with it ! Today I can look at all the things I used to think I wanted without feeling deprived, because I'm happy. I can guarantee you there will be many outings with my mom and the rest of my family when this has passed but for now we have to stay apart for our safety ... and the Governor has pretty much ordered it here in New York !

Breakfast was a 2.1 ounce 160 calorie cherry cheese roll with caramel drizzle coffee. Power fuel was a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie strawberry cheesecake yogurt. Morning snack was a 155 calorie chocolate shake with peanut butter powder.  Lunch was a 4 ounce 230 calorie four cheese melt with a chef salad. Dressing added 30 calories. Afternoon snack was a square of corn bread (100 calories) and a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit creme brulee yogurt. Dinner was a 5 ounce 210 calorie broccoli & cheese stuffed chicken breast with a bowl of freshly roasted veggies. Evening snack was a 2.2 ounce 140 calorie lemon zest cake. Total calories for the day are 1185 but I'm rounding up to 1200 because of the corn bread, which is likely more than 100 calories. I got 32 ounces of water in and I'm working on another 32 now.

Thanks to technology (and my brother) my entire family hung out for a few hours via Skype today ! It was kind of fun to be able to see and talk to everyone. I'd like to think we'll all be able to get together in person for Easter dinner on April 12, but who knows ! The virus is continuing to spread and today came the news that it has reached my county with 2 confirmed cases. I guess I should have kept my mouth shut about that ! I completed my first workout of the day during our Skype session because I knew if I just sat on the couch the whole time I'd have been there all day. It was a 33 minute walk in Toronto with iFit Guide Mackenzie Putici. The pace was 2.5 mph but I bumped it up to 2.8 mph to make it more of a workout. I had the sound muted so I'll probably repeat this workout so I can enjoy the little tour. Once we said goodbye on Skype I got my roasted veggies into the oven. I'm a little tired of them so once these are gone I probably won't make them for a couple weeks. Before dinner I got a second workout in. It was a 30 minute interval walk in Heidelberg, Germany with iFit trainer Casey Gilbert. It was seven 2 minute intervals at 3 - 3.3 mph with 2 minute recoveries at about 2.6 mph. I liked the trainer and the scenery so this workout flew right by. I logged 63 minutes, 2.9 miles and 284 calories. After dinner I spent about 45 minutes on the Total Gym.

Nutrisystem, exercise and being able to work from home are the 3 things helping me keep it together. I think the more you keep to your normal routine the better off you'll be and I'm fortunate that much of my normal routine takes place at home. I've never had much of a social life so I can't miss something I didn't have !  I do miss being able to hang out with my mom on our casino or shopping jaunts, but we'll do all that again just as soon as we can ! I hope that when this is over people and businesses will be able to recover financially. We're all going to have to do our part to try and support our local businesses as much as possible in order to help them get back on their feet. I don't know when that will be, but I hope it is soon !

Time for a shower and bed. I've had a lot of coffee today so getting to sleep is going to be a crap shoot !
