Day 443: Stay Positive
"When life gives you every reason to be
negative, think of all the reasons to be
positive. There's always someone who
has it worse."
It's Day 443 of Nutrisystem but it's only Day 6 of staying at home. I didn't stay home all day (see below) but it felt odd to be out. People still seem shell shocked and subdued and I noticed NO ONE had children with them. I'm used to crying babies and rambunctious kids running rampant at Walmart ! I saw a couple of people wearing masks and most everyone took advantage of the sanitizing wipes for the cart handles. Wegmans has hand sanitizer at the entrance and red lines on the floor at the registers. You have to stand behind the line while the cashier rings up your groceries. As soon as the cashier handed me my receipt he used hand sanitizer. I saw a cashier at Walmart wearing plastic gloves. She was an elderly woman so that's understandable. I don't know if all the cashiers are doing that as I used the self checkout. After visiting 3 stores I figured I exposed myself to more than I should have and headed home. Got my mail and packages while I was out too so I'm good for another week.
Breakfast was a 2.1 ounce 180 calorie cinnamon roll. I didn't have my Power Fuel. Morning snack was a 155 calorie vanilla shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 3.8 ounce 220 calorie pepperoni pizza melt with a chef salad. Dressing added 30 calories. Afternoon snack was a small square of corn bread (logged as 100 calories) and a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit key lime yogurt. Dinner was a 7.5 ounce 220 calorie chicken fettuccine alfredo over riced cauliflower. I also finished off the roasted veggies. Evening snack was a 1.6 ounce 130 calorie red velvet cupcake. Total calories for the day are 1115 but I'm rounding up to 1200 because of the corn bread. I've got 32 ounces of water in and I'm working on another 32 before bed.
As I mentioned, I ventured out to find some fresh veggies and cat litter and ended up buying a whole lot more. Wegmans in Cicero only had 3 heads of lettuce left and they were junk but I was able to get some fresh brussel sprouts, mushrooms and green beans. I'll be roasting veggies tomorrow ! The produce department hadn't been stripped bare so apparently the panic on those items is over. With the exception of paper products and pet food the shelves looked much more normal. They had a few single 1000 sheet rolls of Wegmans brand toilet paper. I resisted the urge to grab some since I don't need it. I didn't venture into the meat department but noticed they have the deli closed and no self serve donuts. They did have plenty of fresh baked goods so I got a loaf of their Tuscan garlic bread. I went over to Price Chopper in search of lettuce and perhaps a leftover Irish soda bread. They had plenty of beautiful heads of lettuce so I picked up 4. They were pricey - $1.98 vs. Wegmans $0.99 - but what can you do ? No soda bread so I got a pan of corn bread instead. They had no paper products though I saw a couple people with toilet paper and paper towels. They either grabbed the last ones or they were stocking it in a different area of the store. I don't need paper products so I was only looking out of curiosity. I stopped at the Cicero Walmart for cat litter. They had no toilet paper but they did have a small supply of kleenex and paper towels. Cereal shelves had been somewhat replenished but are nowhere near normal. Meat department was pretty much bare so apparently everyone is still filling their freezers with a years supply of meat. They had plenty of bread, eggs, milk and other dairy products (other than cheese). I picked up some high protein snack bars that meet Nutrisystem guidelines and a few bottles of salad dressing since I use that every day. I also grabbed a couple jars of reduced sodium green olives to jazz up my salads. I had never seen them before and green olives are my favorite ! Walmart had plenty of chips and candy so apparently no one is hoarding those items yet ! Oddly enough, garbage bags were in short supply and they didn't have much in the way of laundry products either. I got the last bottle of the water softener I use for my laundry. Drive thru's of most restaurants I saw were packed. Chick-Fil-A (always), Starbucks, McDonald's and Dunkin were all bustling ! Home Depot and Lowes were packed too. Traffic was definitely lighter than usual since about the only places you can go are grocery stores, gas stations, liquor stores and fast food drive thru's.
I washed my hands good as soon as I got home and then again after I put everything away. I also changed into fresh workout clothes. I'm not too worried about this virus for myself but I'm going to take what precautions I can to stay healthy. Once everything was put away I sat down with a hot cup of butter toffee coffee and a small square of corn bread. I was starving ! SyFy had the Harry Potter movies on, the Paramount channel was showing Indiana Jones movies, USA had the Fast and Furious franchise on and Animal Planet is doing a Too Cute marathon - so there was plenty to watch on tv !
I finally booted myself off the couch around 4 pm and hopped on the treadmill. I completed a 32 minute walk in Hawaii with iFit trainer Kirsty Godso. Speed was 3 mph until about the 18 minute mark when she stopped for off machine crossfit. I opted to keep walking at 2.8 mph until the workout resumed at the 27 minute mark. It ended with 90 seconds at 3.7 mph. I was feeling pretty sluggish when I started but after just a few minutes I was energized and really enjoyed the trainer and the scenery. Before dinner I completed a 22 minute HIIT intervals workout in Bolivia with Hannah Eden. Speed ranged from 2.8 to 3.5 mph and there was plenty of incline so this one definitely made me work hard ! By the time I had dinner it was after 10 pm so I skipped the Total Gym today. I logged 54 minutes, 2.6 miles and 295 calories.
I thought about visiting my mom today but after having been in 3 different stores I didn't think it was a good idea to take a chance on bringing any germs into her house. She and I will be doing the casino version of a poker run when they reopen and I may actually convince her to use one of the free room offers we get all the time ! I talk to her on the phone every day and my sister brought her groceries the other day. As for me, I'm resigned to spending the next 6 days at home. I have everything I need so I really have no reason to go out before next weekend. I'll be tired of roasted veggies after this last batch so I'll only need salad items. What's ironic is that a few years back I preferred to spend all my time at home, even though my home life was a disaster. That's because I could hide away in my bedroom alone and shut out the world and all of my troubles with the internet and my stash of candy and cookies. These days I have no need or desire to hide from anything and I don' t have that stash anymore, so this enforced isolation was a bit difficult to accept at first. Who ever thought something like this would happen !!?!? It just blows my mind. I'd like to think that we'll bounce back and get back on the track to prosperity but the future really is uncertain for so many people. I'm fortunate to be able to work at home and that helps the days pass without worry. I'm so blessed and so grateful.
It's about time for a shower and bed !
