Day 422: Change
"Change takes time. It takes time for
the seeds to begin growing within, time
to understand and process, time for the
growth to mature, and time for the old
self to die and fall away."
~Bryant McGill~
Nobody likes change and I am no exception to that. I've had to deal with plenty of it over the years and I fought it every time. The energy I spent fighting change was wasted, because change comes whether you like it or not. It didn't matter if it was changes at work or changes in my personal life, whatever it was it used to send me into a panic. When I decided to address my weight on 12/29/18 and hit the submit button for my first Nutrisystem order I was taking the first step towards the biggest change my life has ever seen. A lot had already changed and it wasn't all bad, but I had yet to address the changes that were needed in me. Once I finally "saw" what I really looked like I knew I had to do something. I sat here on the couch that day browsing the Nutrisystem site, and committing to a plan that would cost in excess of $300 a month for 24 days of food was not an easy decision. I sat here and did the math on what I was already spending on food and realized I spent more just buying coffee, fast food and lunches during the week. Sure, I would have to add veggies and 2 snacks a day plus meals the rest of the month but even that didn't deter me. I never spared any expense buying junk like cookies, candy, chips and expensive specialty ice cream. I have never regretted the decision. It's the smartest thing I have done in my entire life. Losing the weight is making me a happier and healthier person and I really do feel like my old unhappy self is dying and falling away with the pounds.
Breakfast was a 2.1 ounce 160 calorie cherry cheese roll with hazelnut coffee. Power fuel was a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit creme brulee yogurt. Morning snack was a 155 calorie vanilla shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 4 ounce 230 calorie meatball parmesan melt with a chef salad. Dressing added 30 calories. Afternoon snack was a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit tiramisu yogurt and 12 reduced fat wheat thins (90 calories). Dinner was a 7.5 ounce 220 calorie chicken fettuccine alfredo that I served over riced cauliflower. I also had the last of my roasted veggies so it looks like I'm heading to Wegmans tomorrow ! Evening snack was a 2.2 ounce 140 calorie lemon zest cake. Total calories for the day are 1185 and I got 64 ounces of water in.
Woke up at 8 am to the sound of my driveway being plowed ! I guess we had a few inches of snow overnight. After breakfast I went outside and cleared the snow from in front of the garage and side doors and also cleaned off the sidewalk and front steps. Then I shoveled both sides of the driveway from top to bottom to widen things up. My plow guy is careful not to drive off the sides of the driveway so I clear the edges. Once that was done I had a second cup of coffee and relaxed for a bit. Around 11 I got on the treadmill for workout #1. It was a 30 minute endurance hike in Alaska with Ben Seale. It was at max incline for about 15 minutes and speeds ranged from 2 mph to 3 mph so I worked up a good sweat before work. I ended up only having to work from noon to 2, so that was nice ! After work I decided to get my Ring doorbell mounted. I've had it sitting out on the porch all week unattached. It was really easy to attach to the door frame and works great. I opted to install it inside the front porch instead of outside in the weather. About 5 pm I decided it was time to get workout #2 going because it was going to be a long one ... 84 minutes to be exact ! It was the last cultural walk in the Istanbul, Turkey series with Salih Batkin. I had been putting it off because it was so long and yet again I wasn't confident I could do it. It had a bit of incline here and there but the pace was 2.5 mph so I was able to manage. However, I was REALLY glad when this workout was over ! I enjoyed this series and will probably do it again some day. Today I logged 4.8 miles, 114 minutes and 619 calories. I skipped the Total Gym because I was just too tired. I think shoveling and almost 2 hours on the treadmill was enough for one day !
It's late so it's about time to head to bed. I suspect I will sleep well !
