Day 417: Great Surprises
"One of the greatest discoveries a man
makes, one of his great surprises, is to
find he can do what he was afraid he
couldn't do." ~Henry Ford~
Over the past 416 days I've done a lot of things I thought I couldn't do. It seems like every obstacle I get past makes the next one I encounter that much easier to overcome. When I started Nutrisystem I "hoped" to be successful with losing weight but I wasn't sure I could. When I started using the treadmill I wasn't sure I could stay with it. It was really hard to find the motivation needed to make exercise a regular part of my life. At some point I finally realized I was doing it ! The weight was falling off and getting on the treadmill every day was getting easier. It took me a while but I finally settled on the Total Gym to help with strength training and it's been relatively easy to incorporate it into my day. While all this was going on I was also paying down debt and getting my financial life in shape. Even the turmoil in my job made life a little easier because I only go to the office 2 days a week now. I don't really celebrate that because it was not a positive for so many wonderful people, who deserved so much more. I just recognize and appreciate that it turned out to be a positive for me and I'm grateful for that. I've come through a lot of obstacles over the past year so maybe Henry Ford knew what he was talking about ! Everything I'm doing is something I thought I could never do. Am I surprised ? You bet I am ! So I really hope life continues on this path, because it's so much more pleasant than where I've come from.
Breakfast was a 2.1 ounce 160 calorie cherry cheese roll with coffee. Power Fuel was a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit creme brulee yogurt. Morning snack was a 155 calorie vanilla shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 3.8 ounce 230 calorie four cheese melt with a chef salad. Dressing added 30 calories. Afternoon snack was 12 low fat wheat thins (90 calories) and a new item, 12 slices of turkey pepperoni (80 calories). The pepperoni tasted good but had an unpleasant smell so I'll probably eat what I bought and cross it off my list. I was never one to eat pepperoni so it's not like I've been craving it. This stuff also has a ton of sodium (680 mg!) so it's not really a healthy food choice. To get rid of it I'm going to have 4 or 6 slices and then add some cheese so it meets the power fuel guidelines (80-120 calories & 5 grams of protein). Lesson learned - I should have read the nutrition info before I bought it ! Dinner was a 7.5 ounce 220 calorie chicken fettuccine alfredo that I served over riced cauliflower. Evening snack was a 1.8 ounce 140 calorie chocolate cupcake. Total calories for the day are 1185 and I got 64 ounces of water in.
Since today was a work at home day I got a workout in during lunch. I completed #12 of 14 in the Easter Island series with Dr. Dale Simpson. It was an easy 18 minutes at 2.5 mph. After work I did a 33 minute safari hike on the plains of Tanzania with Jake Norton. I've done this workout on many occasions and it actually used to be the first workout in the Mount Kilimanjaro series. For some reason iFit changed the series and removed it. Speed ranged from 2.4 to 2.8 mph and there were a few minutes of max incline towards the end. I logged 2.1 miles, 51 minutes and 253 calories. After dinner I got on the Total Gym and spent about 40 minutes doing various exercises.
Weather was great today for February, 50 degrees with blue skies and sunshine. It's not going to be quite so warm tomorrow but any day without snow in the forecast is a good day for me ! Tomorrow is another work at home day and it's time for a shower and bed.
