Day 412: Set New Goals
"If you achieve your goal, you
celebrate and feel terrific, but only
until you realize you just lost the
thing that gave you purpose and
direction. Your options are to feel
empty and useless, perhaps enjoying
the spoils of your success until they
bore you, or set new goals and reenter
the cycle of permanent pre-success
failure."
~Scott Adams~
Now that I'm "only" 27 pounds away from my goal weight I've started thinking about what I can focus on next. I may decide to lose a bit more weight, but if I don't go that route I'm definitely concerned about not having a goal other than maintaining my weight and continuing to work on my fitness. Boredom is definitely a concern, which is why I'm thinking about doing some landscaping once the snow is gone. I was thinking about hiring someone to give my house some "curb appeal" but then I started wondering why I don't just do it myself ? Sure, hiring a landscaper would give me instant gratification and professional results, but where is the fun in that ? You don't get much satisfaction from just writing a check, so I think it would mean more to look out and see the results of something I worked on myself. An added benefit is this will give me something other than my weight to focus on. Although I fully intend to maintain the loss I don't want to end up obsessing about my weight. Spring will be here before you know it so I'm going to start planning now. I'm not an experienced gardener so I'm just going to focus on one area of the yard at a time, starting with the side. Grass is starting to grow in this area but that's about it.
So I'm thinking about putting in plastic deck planters. These are 3 feet long and only $21 from Walmart. They come in multiple colors too, so I probably wouldn't get white. Something like this would allow me to plant different things every year instead of putting in a bunch of perennials. I suppose I could plant perennials in them too. Once the snow is gone I can get out there and take some measurements and then make some decisions. It'll be nice to have something other than my weight to think about !
Breakfast was a 2.1 ounce 160 calorie cherry cheese roll with butter toffee coffee. Power fuel was a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit creme brulee yogurt. Morning snack was a 155 calorie vanilla shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 3.8 ounce 220 calorie pepperoni pizza melt with raw carrots. Afternoon snack was (drum roll please) the last 1.58 ounce 180 calorie almond, cranberry & oat bar ! Dinner was an 8.2 ounce 240 calorie chicken fajita bowl with roasted veggies. Evening snack was a 1.8 ounce 140 calorie butterscotch cake. Total calories for the day are 1175 and I got 64 ounces of water in. My latest Nutrisystem order came today and all 120 items fit in the freezer ! I pretty much have enough food to last 2 months !
Today was an office day and the commute was perfect. Roads were clean and dry but snow flurries moved in just as I was getting to the office. That moved out by noon so the drive home was fine too .. the lull before the storm I think ! Tonight I completed #19 of 23 in the Mount Kilimanjaro series with Jake Norton. It was a long 34 minutes on the treadmill because of the 15 minutes we spent at max incline ! Speed ranged from 1.9 to 2.4 mph, which sounds pretty slow but the incline really makes you have to work a lot harder. Tomorrow is the last hard one in the series because we'll be reaching the summit. It'll be 45 minutes with 30 at max incline so I'm a little scared ! Once I get through that the last 3 are descents so incline won't be a factor. My treadmill doesn't do decline so the last 3 walks will be pretty much flat for me. Today I logged 1.2 miles, 34 minutes and 213 calories.
Right now my area has a lake effect snow warning until 1 pm tomorrow so I'll probably be working from home. It's not snowing yet ... it's waiting for me to go to sleep ! Time for a shower and bed.
