Day 354: Moving On
"Time to stop crying, time to get your act together and do something. Time to move beyond the pity party." ~Lisa McMann~
Wise words for today ! Time to put on my big girl panties and get over it. There were things to do and no time to do it. In truth, I could easily have spent another day sitting on the couch, feeling sorry for myself and ignoring everything that needed to be done. Instead I pulled it together, grabbed my lists and headed out the door. I'm glad I did because I feel so much better now. I got past my fear of getting back in the car, which wasn't easy, but I'm still a bit paranoid. I guess being more cautious than usual isn't a bad thing !
Breakfast was a "flex" item, a 2.3 ounce 240 calorie maple & brown sugar flavor Powerful Oatmeal. I added about 10 ounces of water so the cooked weight is pretty hefty for a breakfast item. I used to eat this oatmeal every day before Nutrisystem and since it fits the guideline for a Smart Carb & two Power Fuel's it's perfect for a Nutrisystem breakfast. Technically speaking I could have counted the oatmeal as 1 Power Fuel and 1 Smart Carb and then added another Power Fuel, but I couldn't even finish the oatmeal. I have 5 more of them and I don't think I will buy it again because surprisingly enough I found it to be too sweet now ! I got hungry while I was out so I had a 1.8 ounce 200 calorie chocolate peanut butter bar. This is considered a lunch bar but it's pretty much like having a candy bar, so I really enjoyed it. Dinner was a 7.5 ounce 220 calorie chicken fettuccine alfredo that I served over riced cauliflower. Evening snack was a 2.1 ounce 130 calorie cream filled chocolate cupcake. Total calories for the day are only 790 so I added in a couple extra snacks. I had a 1.1 ounce 130 calorie package of milk chocolate covered pretzels and a 1.4 ounce 150 calorie chocolate pretzel bar. That brings my calories up to 1070. I only got 32 ounces of water in today but that is better than yesterday, which was zero !
My first stop on today's adventure was Driver's Village to get that estimate done. Ironically I was there last December for the same reason ! Late last November I encountered a deer on Route 31 in Cicero and ended up with significant front end damage on the passenger side. It was rainy that night and although I swerved to avoid the deer it continued moving forward and I hit it. I had front passenger side fender damage along with damage to the hood from the antlers. That incident also occurred on a curve and cost my insurance company over $5k to repair the damage. This year's adventures are going to be at least $2k because the entire rear bumper and the spoiler need to be replaced. The trunk lid is questionable because it's out of alignment. It definitely needs cosmetic repair and possibly something as simple as a new hinge. They won't know until they get it in the shop and open it. They also need to examine the underside of the car to ensure there is no hidden damage, since it went down an embankment and had to be winched out. I will say the car appears to be fine mechanically, so we'll see. I'll be it off on January 7 to have the repairs done and the estimator from Driver's Village helped me set up a rental car today too. She was so nice .. and remembered me .. lol ! She sent me off with a big hug and an assurance that they'll make my car pretty again ! I headed to Wegman's next, in search of shrimp. I got a beautiful shrimp tray for tomorrow along with everything else I needed in the way of groceries. I could have gone to Walmart and maybe saved a couple dollars but I just wanted to get the shopping done and get home. On the plus side, they have beautiful produce at Wegman's so I bought a bunch of fresh veggies that I'm going to roast the day after Christmas. I also found the fat free cream cheese I'd been looking for, along with some sugar free "maple" syrup to jazz up my Nutrisystem pancakes and waffles. For whatever reason I can't get these items at Walmart. After Wegman's I headed to Walgreen's to pick up some last minute gift cards. On the way home I stopped at a liquor store in Central Square to pick up a few bottles of my favorite Italian wine, Roscato Rosso Dolce. It's a sweet red with some fizz. I also bought a couple bottles of a Moscato from Cupcake Vineyards. The gentleman in the liquor store said it was new so I decided to give it a try. I was able to get home before dark and that made me happy. Once I got home I decided to shovel my driveway because snow had come off the roof and since it got up into the 50's today it was wet and slushy. If I left it there to freeze my driveway would be nothing but a sheet of ice. I probably spent an hour out there but the driveway looks awesome now. I like my driveway to be pretty clean in the winter so it's not uncommon for me to go out there with the shovel and clean it up even after it's been plowed. The difference this winter is I was able to do the entire driveway without stopping to rest and my back, although tired, is fine. Needless to say I don't need a treadmill workout now, I got my cardio in !
I slept on the couch again last night. I just didn't have the energy to go upstairs to bed. Getting out of the house and getting things done today was really the best medicine and I don't plan on spending a third night on the couch. I did get an odd feeling when I passed the accident site today and I was surprised to see a deer lying there, just off the road. Apparently I hit it hard enough to kill the poor thing OR someone else hit one at the same spot ! Whatever the circumstances I hope the poor thing didn't suffer.
Hard to believe tomorrow is Christmas Eve already ! Mom and I will be spending the evening with my brother and his girlfriend as my older and younger sisters will be spending the evening with their husband's families. We'll all be together on Christmas Day. My mom is worried about me having to drive home after dark both days but the reality is I can't be afraid to drive in the dark. It's dark before 5 pm right now and on office days I'm going to be out in the dark. What I can do is be more aware and slow down on these dark roads. I've seen deer along Route 69 before but never in this particular spot, so it may be a new route for them to cross the road. So I'm over the initial trauma and looking forward to the next couple days of family time. Thursday I'll be roasting veggies and getting back to normal ! My house needs some attention since I've done nothing the past couple days.
Here's to a wonderful Christmas ! I'm heading to sleep in my warm comfy bed for the first time in 2 nights. I'm showering in the morning so I'll be refreshed and ready to get busy ! I'm going to cook the sausage, onions and celery for my stuffing and get the bread ready so that all I have to do Wednesday is mix it all together and throw it in the oven. Once that is done I'm heading over to mom's to wrap some last minute gifts before we head to my brother's house.
