Day 330: Focus and Effort
"Success at anything will always come down to this: Focus and Effort, and we control both." ~Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson~
Today was the day to put my focus back on weight loss. I thoroughly enjoyed yesterday's meal and I don't regret anything I ate or drank. I've said before that this is a lifestyle change and long term success means I can't restrict myself 365 days a year. I allowed myself to have what I wanted yesterday, within reason, but today I'm back on track with no regrets. As a recovering emotional eater I no longer attach emotion to food, so I didn't spend today regretting what I ate and drank yesterday. I didn't stuff myself and I went to bed hungry last night, and I was fine with that. Even if I went over my calories I know it takes an extra 3500 calories to gain a pound so there is no reason to panic, because even if I went over it was only by a couple hundred. The key though is not allowing yourself to go over on a regular basis. That is how your weight starts creeping back up and I'm determined not to let that happen. The best thing about 12/26/19 is the fact there will be no more excuses to overindulge until Easter, which is April 12. I'll have to start thinking about a goal weight for my April 11 weigh in ! Reaching 170 pounds comes to mind. If I'm at 186 on January 4, getting to 170 by April 11 would mean 16 pounds in 14 weeks. That would put me 20 pounds from my goal weight ! It's ironic, the closer I get to my goal weight the more worried I get about not being able to reach it. I had a lot of disappointment in my life and over the years I stopped dreaming about achieving anything, because then there was no disappointment. So allowing myself to dream now is not without a significant fear of failure. Regardless, it's a risk I have to take because in order to succeed you have to dream.
Breakfast was a 2.1 ounce 180 calorie cinnamon roll with hazelnut coffee. Power fuel was a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit tiramisu yogurt. Morning snack was a 155 calorie chocolate shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 4 ounce 220 calorie spinach & cheese pretzel melt with a large chef salad. Dressing added 30 calories. Afternoon snack was a 5.3 ounce Light & Fit caramel apple pie yogurt and the remains of a bag of Skinny Pop popcorn. There was maybe 1.5 cups, so about 70 calories. Dinner was a 7.5 ounce 220 calorie chicken marsala. I had leftover broccoli with it. Evening snack was a new item, a 2.1 ounce 130 calorie cream filled chocolate cupcake. It was pretty good ! Total calories for the day are about 1175 and I got 64 ounces of water in.
As much as I'd have liked to grab a second cup of coffee this morning and spend the entire day on the couch watching Harry Potter movies on USA, I really had no excuse not to get on the treadmill. So I postponed the coffee and repeated another of the Lake Tahoe hikes with John Peel. I did this 39 minute hike back on Sunday 11/24. It had ten 2 minute intervals that averaged around 2.8 mph with 1 minute recoveries in between at around 2.5 mph. It had quite a bit of max incline so I definitely worked up a sweat ! Not a bad way to burn 273 calories and log 1.7 miles. After my workout I had that second cup of coffee along with my morning shake. After a little break to watch some Harry Potter and play a little Candy Crush I went to the post office and the store. I'm taking deviled eggs tomorrow and wanted to get some fresh eggs. When I got home I finally crossed the last item off my vacation "to do" list - putting the new registration sticker on my windshield. I've always dreaded and avoided this task because it was always so difficult. Guess what ? It was not difficult at all this time ! Now I'm realizing my weight made it difficult for me to get in there and scrub off the old one and most of the time the new one would end up crooked because I was exhausted by the time I got to that step. Today I had the job done in minutes and then cleaned the entire windshield. I'll call this today's non-scale victory and another realization of the limitations my weight had put on me over time. After a late lunch I put the eggs on to boil and spent some time washing dishes and cleaning up the kitchen while they cooked. Deviled eggs done I got workout #2 in. I actually repeated the 31 minute Lake Tahoe hike I did last night. Today I logged a total of 70 minutes, 3.2 miles and burned 518 calories.
Tonight there was a shooting at Destiny USA mall and to my horror I learned my sister, brother-in-law and niece were there at the time, worryingly close to the incident. Thankfully they are all fine. I haven't been to the mall in quite some time and I don't see myself visiting any time soon. I feel a lot safer shopping from my couch or at suburban shopping areas.
It's late and about time for a shower and bed.
