Day 323: Remember

"Remember that the reason you're doing this is to make your life better."

A short and succinct quote on this blustery Friday before vacation ! I started Nutrisystem in hopes of losing weight and improving my health. I didn't really think about it making my life better. Honestly I didn't really even think about what losing the weight would mean. On that dark December day I just knew I had to do something. I had to try. Back then I couldn't visualize myself 100 pounds lighter. I didn't think about being able to buy "normal" sized clothing. I didn't think about having more energy and no aches and pains. I didn't think about having confidence. I'd spent so many years without dreams or aspirations ... why would I dream now ? I'd failed at everything I'd ever tried. I was plus size my entire adult life. I'm probably still considered plus size, although I can buy size medium tops and I'm on the verge of graduating to size 14 bottoms. It's unfortunate that our society is label obsessed, whether it's your size, your religion, your skin color, your politics or your sexual preference - everything has to have a "label". I've been plus size for a long time so I guess I can be plus size a little longer. I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing, because it is making my life better.

Breakfast was a 2.1 ounce 160 calorie cherry cheese roll with french vanilla coffee. Second cup was triple chocolate. Power fuel was a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit tiramisu yogurt. Morning snack was a 155 calorie chocolate shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 4 ounce 230 calorie meatball parmesan melt with a chef salad. Dressing added 30 calories. Afternoon snack was a 90 calorie veggie cake and a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit caramel apple pie yogurt. Dinner was an 8 ounce 180 calorie creamy chicken broccoli pasta that I served over steamed brussel sprouts. I also added a sprinkle of romano cheese. Evening snack was a 3.5 ounce 130 calorie ice cream sandwich. Total calories for the day are 1155 (I added 20 for the cheese) and I got 64 ounces of water in.

After not working out yesterday it was great to be back on the treadmill today ! My lunchtime workout was #6 in the Alps with John Peel. The description of the workout says it was four 4 minute intervals but it didn't feel like intervals because the incline changed frequently and when the incline increases the speed decreases. It was only 20 minutes and the incline was not really a factor. Speeds were 3 mph or less. I really should have done this incline series a long time ago because it's truly intended for beginners. My evening workout was a bit more intense. It was 38 minutes with Ben Seale in Skagway Alaska. This workout mixed intervals with a bit of steady state at the end. There were six 2 minute intervals at 3.4 mph with 2 minute recoveries at 2.8 mph. After the intervals we had a 10 minute steady state walk at about 2.7 mph. This workout had a lot of incline but it was all brief so the deck of my treadmill was going up and down throughout the entire workout. Most of the incline was 3% or less so it too was manageable. 59 minutes, 2.7 miles, 347 calories burned. Not a bad day !

I was so happy when 5 pm rolled around today because it meant I was officially on vacation ! The past couple of weeks were pretty busy so I'm looking forward to the break. I have a little "to do" list to work on so I won't be on the couch watching tv. I need to hang the lights on the front porch. The car needs an oil change and I need to put the new registration sticker on the windshield. I hate that job ! I also need to put my outdoor table and chairs away. I brought the cushions in a while ago but never got around to the rest. All the snow has melted so I need to get this done before we get more !

My goal for this week is not to allow myself to go too far off the tracks when it comes to what I eat. I plan to have some wine and a bit of dessert on Thanksgiving. I will also have have turkey and mashed potatoes and gravy, but thanks to Nutrisystem's roasted turkey medallions meal I know what an appropriate portion is ! I will skip stuffing, corn and other bread products so that I can have a little green bean casserole. There will be salad so I'll bring my little travel bottle of fat free dressing and have a large salad. I may also bring my water bottle to ensure I get 64 ounces of water in. Since this will be my one day of indulgence I need to do my best to stay on plan the rest of the week. We'll see how that goes !

It's about time for a shower and bed. After my late night it was not easy to get up this morning and I'm pretty tired tonight.
