Day 320: Success
"Success means being satisfied with what you do every day. It's being proud of the better person you are becoming." ~Dwayne Wade~
I'm definitely proud of the person I'm becoming. I feel like I'm a better person in that I'm happier and healthier. That doesn't make me "better" than anyone else, it just makes me better than the person I was yesterday. I'm satisfied with what I'm doing every day so I can definitely claim success. This whole journey has been about being healthier and happier with myself and it's been an adjustment. Sometimes I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror and I have to go back and look again, because it is still hard to believe. I think back to how I used to feel physically and mentally before Nutrisystem. I knew for a long time that I was in trouble, with the way I was eating. My body was telling me in subtle and not so subtle ways every day, but I was ignoring it. Food was more important to me. I literally would eat to drown out those messages because eating was comfort .. even though it was slowly killing me. It's fitting that my mom gave me life and also saved my life with those innocently taken Christmas photo's. I honestly don't know if I'd have come to the decision to start Nutrisystem if not for those photo's. Remember, when I looked in the mirror back then I did not see the same things those photo's showed. Oh, I knew I was seriously overweight but my mind did not register just how large I had become. That's why it's been difficult to accept what I see today. My mind played tricks on me before so it took a while to believe. I still have a long way to go so I'll be gawking at myself and talking about it a while longer !
Breakfast was a 3 ounce 160 calorie baked banana and chocolate oatmeal with macadamia cookie coffee. Power fuel was a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit tiramisu yogurt with a cup of caramel vanilla cream coffee. Morning snack was a 155 calorie vanilla shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 4 ounce 220 calorie spinach & cheese pretzel melt with a chef salad. Dressing added 30 calories. Afternoon snack was a 90 calorie veggie cake and a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit toasted coconut vanilla yogurt. This left 385 calories for dinner and an evening snack. Dinner was a 7.5 ounce 220 calorie chicken fettuccine alfredo served over riced cauliflower. I also had some steam green beans. Evening snack was a 1.6 ounce 130 calorie red velvet cupcake. Total calories for the day are 1165 and I got 64 ounces of water in.
First workout of the day today was #4 in the Alps series with John Peel. We finished mountain #1 !! The workout was "only" 20 minutes but it was enough to bump up my heart rate and make me a little sweaty. It consisted of 5 one minute intervals at 3.4 mph with two minute "recovery" at 3.1 mph in between. There was a small amount of incline but it was manageable. He wanted you to have your hands on the rails during the fast pushes but part way through the first interval I found I didn't really need to hold on, so I kept my hands off the rest of the way. The last 20 seconds of the last interval was at 3.5 mph and I barely felt the increase. I'm sure I'd feel it if it lasted longer ! The second workout of the day was a bit of a disappointment. I challenged myself to a 44 minute steady state workout in Hawaii with Heather Jenson but I was only able to last 24 minutes. This workout has a ton of max incline and the pace is 3.2 mph most of the time. That's a tough combination. After 24 minutes I paused the workout to catch my breath. After about 3 minutes of rest I restarted, but I just couldn't do it. Most all of the workouts I've been doing are Level 1 and this was a Level 3, so I'm not surprised I couldn't get through the entire thing. Yet again I'm skipping past an entire level and expecting miracles. The incline is what did me in, not so much the speed. I guess I'll be proud of the fact I was able to pass the half way point. I could have dropped the incline or slowed the pace (or both) but I like to complete the workouts as they are. I'll be back to try this one again some day. It might take me a few tries to get through the whole 44 minutes but I WILL do it ! Stats for the day are 2 miles, 45 minutes, 350 calories burned.
I was awake early and since it was a work at home day I was able to do some laundry and other chores around the house before work. I like being home on Tuesday because it's trash day and I can grab my trash can as soon as the garbage men empty it. I put it out in the morning now and keep the lid in the garage since they have a habit of tossing it anywhere, including on the other side of the street ! It's nice not to have to go on a scavenger hunt in the dark to find my trash can and its lid ! I was also able to get rid of 2 more styrofoam coolers so I was happy about that.
My next challenge is trying on the size 14 jeans I bought recently. I only bought one pair, for motivation ! The size 16's have become pretty comfortable so I'm hoping the 14's will fit soon. The day I can fit into a 12 or below will be amazing because getting out of the "teens" has been a goal for a while.
Tomorrow is an office day and I'm tired, so it's going to be an early night. Thankfully there is no snow in the forecast and it's going to be near 40 tomorrow. Today was relatively mild too so the snow in my yard is continuing to disappear. I know it'll be back but I'm in no hurry for that !
