Day 319: Stay Consistent
"Working out might feel like a burden at first. But if you stay consistent exercising will become a part of you and feel like therapy."
Never thought I'd post a quote like this ! I had to do it today because it is so true. Working out was totally a burden in the beginning. I hated it. I made 100 excuses not to do it. But over time it has become a part of my routine, a part of my day, a part of my life. When I'm on the treadmill I'm not thinking about anything else. I focus on the trainer and the scenery, which is why I really love iFit. If I was just walking on the treadmill or using the few workouts that came programmed into the machine I don't think I'd have stuck with it. Having the trainer cheering you on and pushing you to your limits makes a big difference. They also talk about their lives and tell you a bit about the area they're filming in, so that makes the time fly. It's definitely therapeutic to have that momentary escape from everything else going on in the world. Without iFit I wouldn't have challenged myself to the degree I have. After taking yesterday off I was really happy to be back on the treadmill today ! In a couple weeks I'll have been on this journey for 11 months and I am 100% certain I would not have had the success I've had if not for Nutrisystem and iFit. Yes, I put in the work to control my eating and become more active but they made it pretty easy to do that. They were the tools I needed to succeed. I guess you really can teach an old dog new tricks !
Breakfast was a 2.1 ounce 160 calorie cherry cheese roll with hazelnut coffee. Second cup was brown sugar crumble with my power fuel 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit caramel apple pie yogurt. Morning snack was a 155 calorie chocolate shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 4 ounce 230 calorie meatball parmesan melt with a chef salad. (I hesitated to have this one, considering I made myself sick with meatballs Saturday night!) Salad dressing added 30 calories. Afternoon snack was a 90 calorie veggie cake and a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit key lime pie yogurt. That left 375 calories for dinner and an evening snack. Dinner was an 8.5 ounce 250 calorie chicken & vegetable stir fry served over riced cauliflower. Evening snack was a 1.9 ounce 120 calorie tiramisu. Total calories for the day are 1195 and I got 64 ounces of water in.
The first workout of the day was #3 in the 24 workout Alps series with John Peel. This 20 minute workout consisted of 8 one minute intervals at 3.2 mph with one minute recoveries at 2 mph in between. There was some incline but it wasn't anything I couldn't handle. The second workout of the day was a bit more of a challenge. It was 27 minutes in Costa Rica with John Peel and again it was intervals, but with a twist. It started off with six 45 second intervals at about 3.2 mph with 90 second recoveries at 2.4 mph. After that he threw in two 2 minute intervals at 2.8 mph with 2 minute recoveries at 2.4 mph. The twist was much of the last 2 intervals were at max incline ! This workout actually had a LOT of max incline (10% on my machine) from start to finish so I sweated up a storm and it definitely boosted my heart rate. It felt so good to exercise ! Today's stats are 2 miles, 47 minutes and 327 calories burned.
I wasn't sure how I'd feel today but I felt pretty normal when I woke up. I even changed the sheets on my bed before work ! At lunchtime I was looking for an "easy" workout but then decided to just go for it and see what happened. I'm glad I did because I was fine. That's why I challenged myself a little with a more difficult workout after work. I think I got off easy with just a short period of discomfort Saturday night ! Lesson learned on keeping leftovers in the fridge for too long ! I ended up throwing away the meat & sauce I froze because I know I won't eat it now. Sad to waste it but once something makes you ill you don't really want to eat it again for a while. It was only a small bowl, so no big deal. I'll make sauce again next November .. lol !
Weather has been warmer the past couple of days so most of the snow in my yard has melted. There's no snow in the forecast for the foreseeable future so I'm happy about that ! I'm on vacation next week and I didn't want to be snowbound ! Tomorrow's another work at home day but I'm planning an early night. Next up is a shower and bed.
