Day 299: Be Proud
I think we all spend a little too much time worrying about how others see us. I know for years I was all about "appearances" and not wanting to be embarrassed. In spite of that I let my weight balloon out of control, so I guess I didn't really worry about how that would affect how others saw me. It's one thing to not care how others see you, worrying about it is different. I was ashamed of the way I looked and the way I was living but I felt powerless to change it. As a result, I just ignored it and kept eating. I coped by ignoring everything that was going on, hoping it would go away or resolve itself. Well, that didn't help and some how, some way I made it through the storm. The fire changed my life to the point I could finally focus on me. Talking about my experiences took away the shame. It took away the power those hidden memories had over me. I don't worry about how others see me now. Some people like me, some people dislike me. That is life. I'm not perfect. I still have a lot to work on but I'm proud of where I am today. I won't let anyone rain on my parade. Losing over 100 pounds is no easy feat and I will always be proud of who I am and where I am.
Breakfast was a 3.75 ounce 90 calorie turkey ham and cheese omelet. Since this is all protein you have to add a serving of fruit (your smart carb) so I had an 80 calorie serving of pineapple, which is just over 1/2 cup. Morning snack was a 155 calorie vanilla shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 4 ounce 230 calorie meatball parmesan melt with a large chef salad. Dressing added 30 calories. Afternoon snack was a fresh apple (95 calories) and a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit strawberry cheesecake yogurt. Dinner was a 4 ounce 180 calorie artichoke and spinach stuffed chicken breast with broccoli. Evening snack was a 1.4 ounce 140 calorie chocolate caramel bar. Total calories for the day are 1160 and I got 64 ounces of water in.
Before work this morning I spent a little time out in the garage, hauling cardboard out to the curb. Last time I was out there I put it all aside for the trash and then it seemed to rain every trash day and I forgot about it. Since today was dry and sunny I decided to get rid of it. I also put out one of the styrofoam coolers that have been piling up, just to see if they would take it with the other recyclables. They did, so I'm going to put out a couple a week until they're gone. It always amazes me how much I can get done in 10 or 15 minutes. Just a few years ago I couldn't get anything done because there was so much to do, and instead of just trying to do a little bit at a time I did nothing. I've changed that behavior and find that spending 10 or 15 minutes here and there adds up to big accomplishments, so I never feel overwhelmed. I could have sat on the couch with another cup of coffee until it was time for work, but today I decided to use that time more wisely. Over the past almost 10 months I've found myself working on changing a lot of things in my life besides my weight. I knew I was pretty broken but my weight was the primary goal. Now that I'm in pretty much a routine when it comes to food and fitness I have the time to fix some of those other things that were impacting my life.
Today I spent 2/3 of my lunch hour on the treadmill. I didn't have a shorter workout on my schedule so I went with one that was 33 minutes, which is 39 with the 3 minute warm up and cool down. This was another Alaska workout and it kicked my butt ! I almost had to hold on to the rails because I was getting winded, but I fought it off and made it through to the end. This workout was called "train to terrain" and it had lots of max incline (10% on my machine) and intervals of 3 to 3.2 mph. You never knew how long the bursts of speed were going to last and some of them occurred on max incline, which was tough ! I was pretty darn happy to make it to the end. It definitely got my heart rate up because I haven't sweated that much in a while. I guess I've been spoiled by other interval workouts that tell you up front the time frame for each interval. The Alaska series feels like they made it up as they went along .. lol ! I guess that is what "train to terrain" means. Not being a fitness junkie all of this lingo is new to me, so I find myself googling a lot of what I hear the trainers say in order to understand what they're talking about. Before dinner I got a second workout in, another in the Alaska series. It was 38 minutes of intervals but the incline maxed out at 6%. Still, the pushes at 3.2 or 3.3 mph were tough because they lasted almost 2 minutes. The recovery in between only dropped you down to 2.8 mph but those were also close to 2 minutes so it was manageable. I did my share of sweating today so I'm looking forward to tonight's shower ! 3 miles. 71 minutes. 551 calories. This was a great day !
Since there's nothing on tv and I'm tired it's going to be an early night. Tomorrow is an office day so I have to get a bit earlier. Next up is a shower and my warm cozy bed !
