Day 82: Getting Rid of Yesterday
“You don’t get rid of yesterday by talking about it all of the time; you get rid of its effect on you by moving forward.”
Moving forward is so important. You can’t change what happened in your past but once you process it you have to leave it behind. If you don’t there is no room in your life for all of the new and wonderful things that are out there waiting for you. I dwelled on the past for too long and putting it behind me has been incredibly freeing. I’ve come to realize that moving back into the house was incredibly traumatic and I didn’t expect that. Even though it had been completely redone the memories were still there, so I was forced to deal with them. For a while the house felt strange to me but now it is home again. I don’t want to be defined by the past and I won’t let it hold me back. I don’t want to be the “victim” or the “survivor”. I’m just me now. I am making new memories to look back on. My past is nothing more than a cautionary tale of things NOT to do. I’m happy to have turned my focus to improving myself. Being on Nutrisystem gives me something important to focus on and every pound that I lose makes me happy. Exercise also gives me a sense of accomplishment. Before I decided to make this change my evenings were spent on the couch and I really had no focus in life. Honestly I was bored ! I was eating the same rotating menu of prepared foods and sitting in front of the tv or my computer every night. I was just wandering through my life aimlessly. So you really do need a purpose in your life. You need to have something to focus on. When I first moved back in my focus was furnishing the house but once that was done I had nothing to keep me busy. Now my diet and exercise are my purpose.
Breakfast was a 2.1 ounce 180 calorie cinnamon roll and a cup of hazelnut coffee. You’ll notice I am eating frozen items now – that’s because there is a 50% off sale and I’m planning to place another order for frozen items, so I’ll need some room in the freezer ! Power Fuel was some yogurt (about 80 calories). Morning snack was a 155 calorie chocolate shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 4.25 ounce 200 calorie Turkey Pot Pie melt. This was a new item for me and I liked it ! I had 100 calorie string cheese for my lunch Power Fuel. Also had the usual raw carrots. Afternoon snack was a new item: Sargento’s Balanced Breaks. At 180 calories it is a combination Power Fuel (5g protein) and Smart Carb (2g fiber). I bought 3 different varieties. Today’s had monterey jack cheese, dried cranberries, dark chocolate chunks and banana chips. I really like this snack option ! It was another tip from the Nutrisystem group. Dinner was a rerun of last night - a 9.5 ounce 260 calorie roasted turkey medallions with mashed potatoes and gravy. I had a Smart Carb left from my morning snack today too so I threw in a veggie cake (90 calories) to simulate stuffing. I also had a salad - romaine lettuce with shredded carrots and 2 teaspoons of Simply 60 red wine vinaigrette dressing. The dressing only added 20 calories. Evening snack was a 2.1 ounce 140 calorie slice of carrot cake. My calories are at 1360 for the day .. I guess I’m feeding my cold !
I wore my new bracelet to work today ! That put a smile on my face, as did seeing blue skies and sunshine for the 2nd day in a row !! It was a chilly 19 degrees when I left for work !!! Despite the cold I think snow is behind us for this winter, so I don’t have to check the radar every morning to see what road conditions will be like. Speaking of radar … NY’s finest were out looking for speeders bright and early this morning. I saw him first … but the guy that zipped past me in the passing lane apparently didn’t. Oops ! It’s still dark when I leave for work but every day it gets light a little earlier. Sunday I was at Walmart and they have rose bushes already. I’m seriously thinking about buying some to plant. My grandmother grew roses and I’ve always loved them. There were roses in my yard but they were removed when I had the yard cleaned up last summer. The only bad thing about the roses was they drew Japanese beetles and I hate those things. I also had daffodils, a few tulips and rhubarb and since the yard was graded I don’t know if they are still there. I’m hoping they don’t start popping up scattered all over the yard ! I had peonies too and they may be gone as well. I guess I’ll have to wait and see what pops up when the snow is gone and the ground starts to warm up ! I’m thinking of planting some honeysuckle since I love the fragrance it gives off. Flowers will benefit the bees too ! I don’t kill bees unless they’re in the house and I can’t shoo them out a door or window.
Better late than never I started taking my vitamins again last night. I’m doubling up on them for a few days and getting some extra vitamin C. Right now my cold consists of a stuffy nose but I’m coughing a little bit too. I think going to bed early last night was a good idea and I’ll be doing that again tonight. I had no trouble going to sleep but I was awake a few times during the night and it was tough to drag myself out of bed when the alarm went off. I took some Advil Cold & Sinus as soon as I got up so by the time I left for work I felt fine. I really did want to exercise last night but I just did not have the energy and maybe pushing my body when it’s feverish and already trying to fight off a cold isn’t the smartest thing to do. I won’t be exercising tonight either. I don’t want this cold to last as long as the last one did so I’m going to give myself a break. My new challenge is to take the vitamins every day and up my vitamin C intake since I’m not eating much fruit and I’m not drinking orange juice. I’ve also been slacking on veggies even though I bought a bunch on Sunday to roast. So as much as I wish I was perfect I’m not, and that’s ok. I’ve embraced the Nutrisystem food and I’ve embraced exercise so I need to work on the little details like taking a vitamin and having veggies every day. Not eating enough is just as bad as eating too much !
Once I chase this cold away and feel better I’ll be back on the treadmill working on getting my Fit Score back to 100 !
