Out With The Old, In With The New

It's the last day of 2018 and I've decided to start using the "notes" feature on FB for the daily drivel that a lot of my FB friends don't care to see, but I want to record. Today I finally bought the last couple of items I "need" for my home. Mat to go under the treadmill, an office chair and a mat to go under the chair. They won't arrive until late next week but that's ok. Everything else I needed came at Christmas so there is nothing else I need to buy. I put together the over the door mirror I asked for (made in the USA !!) so consider yourself warned that exercise selfies will be making a comeback ! Also got notification that the first box from Nutrisystem will arrive Thursday and the frozen meals shipped today. I appreciated the automated call to alert me about the shipment - this will be important in the summer when it’s hot ! Big challenge is going to be their advice to drink at least 64 ounces of water per day. I don't drink a lot so I'm really going to have to push myself to achieve that. I’m sure my kidneys will thank me and I have a brand new water bottle I’ve never used ! I also have to consume 4 servings of non-starchy vegetables per day. That's doable because there are plenty to choose from that I actually like. I plan to put together my own mix and oven roast them. I already have a nice seasoning blend but I may pick up some salt free ones for variety. I was surprised carrots were on the list because of the sugar content ! I will take pictures of all of the Nutrisystem products and post as much info as I can about taste and ease of preparation, for those who are interested. Their website is a wealth of helpful info and they also have an app for your phone. Once I get started (Friday January 4 is the big day !) we’ll see how those work with the program. I’m happy that I’ll already be 3 days in when I go back to work. It’ll make the transition that much easier. I will miss Dunkin Donuts coffee and I’ll miss the folks at my favorite lunch spot (Darwin on Clinton) but this is not forever. Coffee creamer is allowed eventually so a small coffee every now or then will become a treat. Regrettably, the 320 calorie XL coffee with 5 cream and 5 sugar is gone forever. Eating out will be allowed too so a cup of soup or a salad from Darwin is not out of the question either. However, it can’t and won’t be a daily occurrence. If I lose weight and then fall back to the old habits it will all be for nothing. This is a LIFESTYLE change ! I truly hope this turns out to be a good decision and gives me the result I’m looking for. If it does, I also hope that sharing my journey inspires at least one person to embark on a journey of their own or perhaps return to a journey they started and abandoned. I know all about that ! 2017 was an awful year for me and 2018 was a year of rebuilding so it only makes sense that 2019 is going to be devoted to the new me.
