The Journey Back: Day 9 (and a milestone)
Three years ago today I started the Nutrisystem program ! Little did I know I was embarking on the longest and most successful journey of my life. I needed to lose 154 pounds to reach a "normal" BMI. Was January 4, 2019 going to be the turning point in my life of obesity ? It was .. and on July 23, 2021 I celebrated a total loss of 158 pounds and the attainment of my goal weight ! It look longer than I had hoped but I got there, and that was all that mattered. For once in my life I hadn't given up. There were plenty of bumps along the way but I just kept trying and with a little help in the homestretch from Beachbody I finally made it ! When I decided to address my weight I also decided to address my credit card debt and that goal was a lot easier to reach and maintain. I haven't carried a balance on a credit card for quite a long time. I still use a couple cards but I pay them in full every month. The only 2019 goal I didn't keep was not spending money in casino's. I'm ok with that - it's my mom's favorite pastime and she will not be here forever, so I enjoy those outings while I can. It's hard to believe it's been 3 years since this journey began. Nutrisystem and iFit have changed my life. They were the tools I needed to get this party started !
Today is Day 1097 of Nutrisystem. 165 days since I reached my goal weight. I maintained it for a while but as you know I've gained some weight and I'm working to get it back off and it's Day 9 of that effort. I'm pleased with the progress I'm making and have no doubt I'll settle back in at my goal weight soon.
Breakfast was 160 calorie waffles with sugar free syrup and an 80 calorie yogurt. Morning snack was a 120 calorie chocolate shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 220 calorie grilled chicken sandwich with a chef salad. Afternoon snack was 80 calorie cottage cheese and 90 calorie oatmeal cookies. Dinner was a 260 calorie italian sausage & turkey pepperoni pizza with roasted veggies. Evening snack was a 140 calorie lemon zest cake. Total calories for the day are 1150 and I got 80 ounces of water in.
I spent about 52 minutes on the treadmill today. I'm not pushing myself as hard as I did back in the summer. I did try to resume my treadmill program at the same speeds but it was proving to be very difficult and, more importantly, very demotivating. So the current walking series in Italy with iFit trainers Stacie and Chris Clark is a perfect start for the new year. The pace puts you in the fat burning zone rather than the cardio zone, and this is where I need to be right now. I'm also doing some other walking workouts with similar intensity. It will take some time to rebuild my endurance and I've backed off enough to allow that to happen. On a side note, I started taking a magnesium supplement 2 days ago and my nighttime leg cramps have disappeared ! I am SO happy about that. It might be coincidence but the pain in my left shoulder has nearly disappeared as well, so I'm looking forward to getting back to the Total Gym next week.
Seems like the cold snap is over for a couple days and temps popped up into the 30's today and we had some sun, which is always a plus in winter ! I hate the dark dreary days. Give me blue skies and sunshine ! I can't wait for the 90 degree days on the front porch to be back !! I'll have to settle for a week in sunny Florida in a couple weeks ! Looking forward to that ! On that note it's time for a hot shower and my warm bed !
