The Journey Back: Day 16
“I like to challenge myself. I like to
learn - so I like to try new things
and try to keep growing."
I was thinking about self-care today because that was the topic in my lunchtime workout, but in the end I opted to write about challenges because I challenged myself with my evening workout. It was nothing earth shattering but it was a definite challenge for me. It's a workout I've done before but as you know I slacked off for a few months and I'm working on regaining my endurance. I had intended to modify the settings on the workout to a more comfortable pace but ultimately decided to just go for it and do the programmed speed, which included 30 second intervals at 5 mph .. 13 of them to be exact .. with 1 minute walks in between. I did this one "as programmed" once before but I think that was back in 2019 ! My jog/run form is not good and I know I'll never be a jogger or runner but I made it through the entire workout. This was the little confidence booster I needed, because I've been feeling a bit sluggish and I've been wondering if I'll ever get my endurance back. Well, tonight I was reminded that I have to challenge myself if I want to get back there. I might not be able to challenge myself every single day but I'm going to keep trying.
Today is Day 1104 of Nutrisystem. 172 days since I reached my goal weight. I maintained it for a while but as you know I've gained some weight and I'm working to get it back off and it's Day 16 of that effort. I'm pleased with the progress I'm making and have no doubt I'll settle back in at my goal weight soon.
Breakfast was 150 calorie pancakes with sugar free syrup and an 80 calorie yogurt. Morning snack was a chocolate shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 220 calorie pepperoni pizza melt with a chef salad. Afternoon snack was 80 calorie cottage cheese and 90 calorie oatmeal cookies. Dinner was a 250 calorie chicken enchilada with roasted veggies. Evening snack was a 140 calorie lemon zest cake. Total calories for the day are 1130 and I got 80 ounces of water in.
I managed to get 65 minutes in on the treadmill today. Fitbit says I did over 12,000 steps so I'm slowly getting back to where I was. I haven't taken my Christmas tree down yet so the Total Gym hasn't been put back into action. Tree is coming down this weekend for sure so there will be no more excuses !
-4. That was the temp when I got up this morning ! Brrr .. I could easily have stayed in bed but hungry cats and work was calling. We had a fair amount of snow yesterday but my plow guy was right on it this morning. I do still have to go out and clear my front steps and the area in front of my garage but it was way too cold for that today ! We never made it out of the single digits ! Tomorrow is going to be in the 30's so I'll get it done then. I am SO glad I cleared the driveway the other day when it was all slush, otherwise I'd have a skating rink out there. I had a productive work day and got to close out a few old issues. Every item I complete gives me such a sense of accomplishment. My job has been nothing but a series of challenges over the past few years but I've reached a point where new challenges don't intimidate me. It only took nearly 37 years to get there ! I'm starting to feel like an "old pro" with the new stuff so you can bet a new challenge is just around the corner ! I think maybe dealing with a lot of the things in life that held me back for so many years has allowed me to build confidence in myself and my abilities. It's a good feeling ! On that note, I know it's early but it's freezing cold and I'm dreaming of a hot shower, my electric blanket and some Dr Pol !
