“Come to me, all you who are weary

and burdened, and I will give you

rest.”

– Matthew 11:28 –

It's day 30 AG (after goal) and day 962 of Nutrisystem. Weary and burdened is an accurate depiction of how I've been feeling. I started this blog to document my journey to physical and financial wellness, because I knew I needed it to keep myself accountable. I still need that accountability but I reached a point where it was becoming a chore, instead of an enjoyable outlet. A big contributor to that feeling is the changes in my professional life. I've mentioned that our team is taking on new work and there is a steep learning curve. I'm totally up for the challenge but it means focusing all of my available time and effort on that, because I want to "get it" and start clearing the backlog. Last week I worked late every night - completely voluntarily - so there was no time to write this blog. I'm putting in the extra effort for myself, to learn & retain as much as I can before I go on vacation in 2 weeks. Doing it after 5 means no interruptions ! It's a decision I made on August 17 and that's why I haven't been writing this blog. I also gave up my evening workouts and quite honestly the break has done me good. I was physically and mentally exhausted, living on coffee all day and unable to sleep most nights for the past couple of weeks. I didn't write about that because I am the type to suffer in silence. As always I pasted on the happy face ! The social media break was actually a good thing because that can get to you after a while too. You start scrolling through the news feed and the next thing you know 2 hours have gone by ! So although I was working late I was actually resting because I was off the treadmill and away from social media. It did me a world of good.

Today is Tommy Riv's 37th birthday. It wasn't that long ago that we wondered if he would live to see another birthday. He did and he is continuing to heal. Cancer may have knocked him down but he never stopped fighting and he is fighting back every day. When I am down I think about Tommy and all he and his family have been through over the past year and a half .. and then I ask myself if what is going on with me is anywhere near as devastating. The answer is always no. Remember that someone, somewhere, is always going to be fighting a battle harder than anything that is going on in your own life.

I'm not going to bore you with what I eat and drink on a daily basis anymore. Suffice to say I am continuing to follow the Nutrisystem program and staying within their 1200-1500 calorie guideline. I've actually maintained my weight for 30 days now and I'm proud of that !

I may continue to document my workouts just for my own accountability. Today I didn't do any treadmill workouts because I slept in until almost noon, went grocery shopping and then decided to wash my car. The grocery shopping was interesting .. 2 different men approached me for help in the baking aisle. I was buying jello but one guy was looking for pumpkin (it was right behind him, lol) for a sick dog and the other wanted to know the difference between baking powder & baking soda. Thank God he amended that question to indicate he was looking for something you mix with vinegar to clean with ... bam - baking soda was the answer ! LOL. Baking soda man shared that he was a Veteran from Fort Drum but drives down to Wegman's because something about the store makes him feel good. I could relate .. I do love the store myself. Today I managed to get in and out without visiting the bakery or the prepared foods ... so no contraband came home with me ! I had a quick lunch when I got home and then headed outside to wash my car. These nice sunny summer days will soon come to an end so I really enjoyed spending the afternoon outside. I spent about 3 hours washing and waxing the car and she sparkled like a jewel in the sun when I was done. I saved the most unpleasant task for the end - the interior windshield. Why is that so freaking hard to clean ? I guess it's because my arms aren't 6 feet long ! LOL. Anyhow, I had a wonderful relaxing day and weekend. Yesterday was a casino day with my mom and we both had some luck at the slots. We had a nice meal at Emerald's and I was freezing afterwards so I went outside and look a long walk around the property. I never realized just how huge the Turning Stone Casino property is. When I went back inside the casino the air conditioning felt great and I wasn't cold again. Since we ate lunch at 2 pm mom and I were hungry again around 8 so we stopped at the food court for something to eat before we headed home. We ended up sharing a General Tso's chicken with veggie lo mein. The portion was huge so we were both glad we opted to share one entree.

The week ahead promises to be just as busy as the past couple of weeks have been and I may continue working past 5 this week too. I spent the past 2+ years getting my life together and my job has been my lifeline for many, many years so I don't mind putting in some extra hours for a short period of time. As I said, it's completely voluntary and something I'm doing for myself. I'm sleeping better so if nothing else it has reduced my stress level. Much of the stress is self inflicted, it's just who I am, and it will recede with time. Once the backlog of work has been cleared the day to day work will flow that much easier and extra hours won't be needed. My speed will also increase once I understand all the processes and don't have to keep stopping to look things up. So right now I'm just working through the learning curve. I'm actually enjoying learning new things so this is completely a good news story ! With my Nutrisystem goal met I actually needed a new challenge so the changes at work fit the bill ! On that note it's about time for a shower and bed. I hate to see the weekend go but I feel refreshed and ready to face the challenges of the week ahead !
