Day 19 (AG): Stay Strong
It's day 19 AG (after goal) and day 951 of Nutrisystem. It doesn't happen often but today I was a bit stressed and overwhelmed at work. We have a lot going on, we're busier than ever and we're learning new things every day. I love new challenges and I know that with time things will settle and the new stuff will become old hat ... but the process of getting there will have a bump or two (or twenty!) in the road. It's not like I've never had to learn something new over the past 36+ years ! I only bring this up because I found myself standing in front of the refrigerator this afternoon, not knowing how I got there or why I was there. I stood there with my hand on the door handle and told myself to take a deep breath and breathe .. and that everything was going to be ok. I knew why I was there - I was doubting my ability to learn these new tasks and to keep up with the fast pace and high standards I've always set for myself. Thing is, there was nothing inside the fridge that was going to help with that lack of confidence. I allowed myself that moment and then went back to work. By 3 pm I had cleared the decks to the point that I could work on new things for the rest of the day and all day tomorrow. When the work day ended at 5 pm my calm had returned, along with my confidence in my ability to learn, adapt and excel. This felt like a bit of a victory, given my history of eating for comfort. During this Nutrisystem journey there have been times I gave in and ate for comfort. Sometimes I admitted it here and sometimes I did not. Today was not one of those days. Today I did not give in and I'm learning to celebrate the small victories instead of expecting big earth shattering achievements. Belief in myself and my abilities is key to a happy and healthy personal and professional life and this is still a one day at a time journey.
Breakfast was pancakes with sugar free syrup and a lemon meringue yogurt. Morning snack was a vanilla shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a pepperoni pizza melt and a chef salad. Afternoon snack was 1/2 cup cottage cheese and 2 Alyssa's oatmeal cookies. Dinner was a bacon & onion flatbread and roasted veggies. Evening snack was a lemon zest cake. My breakfast, lunch, dinner and evening snack were all Nutrisystem products.
My workout day started in Utah with iFit trainer Casey Gilbert. Then it was off to Portugal with iFit trainer Tommy Rivs. Last up was a hike in St Lucia with iFit trainer Chris Clark. I logged 92 minutes, 4.8 miles and 588 calories. Fitbit says I did over 14,000 steps.
It was another hot summer day and I worked out on the front porch until about 4 pm, when I headed inside to my air conditioned office to finish off the day. Work was super busy as expected and once I got past my "moment" I had a pretty productive day. We had a thunderstorm or two and some rain showers but it was hot all day. We also had a thunderstorm during the night. I was actually wide awake around 12:30 am and a storm rolled in not long after that. One crack of thunder shook the entire house and was so loud that it would have jolted me out of sleep if I hadn't already been awake ! After a burst of heavy rain it moved on. I don't know what time I went back to sleep but it was tough to drag myself out of bed this morning ! I have no idea why I woke up at 12:30 feeling like I'd slept all night. I had actually only been asleep for maybe 60-90 minutes ! I'm hoping to get a better night's sleep tonight ! On that note it's about time for a shower and bed !
