Day 930: Challenge Yourself

🖤 Get well soon Tommy ! #teamrivs #RageOn 🖤

"Every once in a while you need

to challenge yourself and learn

new things."

Today is day 930 of Nutrisystem. It's also Day 2 of my 3 day Beachbody detox. I'm definitely challenging myself here but I don't know that I'm learning anything new. So you detox for 3 days and then go back to your normal diet and exercise routine. It feels like a "crash diet" to lose a couple pounds in a hurry and in reading a bit more about the detox that's pretty much what people use it for. The goal for me was getting away from the extras that have crept into my daily routine and I feel like I'm achieving that. Do I hope to lose those last 2 pounds ? Absolutely. Did I need to spend nearly $90 to do that ? No, not really. This was all about trying something new, something I've never done before, and I don't plan to repeat it. My hope is that when I return to my Nutrisystem schedule on Friday I won't get hungry in between meals or snacks because I'll have been away from the extra carbs and sugar a bit longer. I do not want to fall into a cycle of overeating and crash dieting. When you do that the extra calories eventually exceed what you're able to burn off and the weight comes right back. I also don't think it's healthy. Some people actually do this detox once a month, which I feel is pretty extreme. My goal is to settle at a good healthy weight and pretty much stay there. That is going to require always watching what I eat and I'm still struggling with that. Maybe what I've learned here is what NOT to do in order to lose weight and also what I still need to work on !

Breakfast was a 160 calorie cafe latte Shakeology protein shake with a cup of fruit. I had a mix of mostly strawberries. Morning snack was a 60 calorie fiber drink that I didn't have until nearly noon. Lunch was a 200 calorie "Vanilla Fresh" shake with another serving of fruit and a chef salad. Afternoon snack was some roasted veggies. Dinner was another 200 calorie "Vanilla Fresh" shake and more veggies. Total calories are 620 plus the fruit and veggies. Hard to guesstimate those calories. I also drank a ton of water.

I decided not to use the treadmill today. My knee is still not 100% and my energy is really low. I used the extra time to get some things done around the house and to catch up a bit at work, since I've been in training for the past 10 days. I feel really good about that decision.

So, thoughts on the detox, day 2. I still don't like the shake products but I'm surviving. I'm sorry, they are just awful tasting and I don't recommend them. I was worried about being able to sleep last night because I went to bed rather hungry but I ended up sleeping just fine. I did clean the upstairs bathroom before I took my shower and went to bed last night, so I got a little extra exercise and a sparkling bathroom ! I've stuck pretty closely to the plan with a couple of exceptions: I'm drinking all the coffee I want and using my sugar free flavorings. They prefer you drink caffeine free herbal tea with no sweeteners. I also used fat free dressing on my salad. I'm sure the "healthy fat" at lunch is intended to be your salad dressing .. but where are you going with 1 teaspoon of olive oil ? I also didn't have a "healthy fat" at dinner, since I dry roast my veggies with just seasonings. I also stretched out my eating. I had the morning shake first thing but didn't have the fruit until I felt hungry. Same with lunch - I had my salad, later the shake and even later the fruit. Even so, I felt rather sluggish and my energy level was nowhere near what it usually is. I suppose that's a result of the relatively severe calorie restriction. I was a little bit sad when I put that last bit of roasted veggies in my mouth at 7:30 tonight .. because that meant I was done eating for the day. 😥 The good news is I've gotten a lot of little things done around the house that I'd been putting off, so that was an added bonus. All in all, I feel today was a better day but I'm going to bed early to avoid temptation !
