"Celebrate the idea that you don't fit

in. Find your own fit. Stay unique.

~ Betsey Johnson ~

Today is day 813 of Nutrisystem. Did Fashion Designer Betsey Johnson ever have to worry about fitting in ? Hard to say, but she probably stopped worrying about it once she became successful. The success I've had with weight loss & fitness has boosted my self esteem to the point that I'm not worried about fitting in any more. I feel like I just blend in now and that works for me. When I weighed 304 pounds I stuck out in a crowd because of my size. I was very self conscious about it so of course if anyone looked in my direction I immediately assumed they were staring at me and judging me. Being less self conscious means I barely notice things like that now. Unlike Betsey, I'm not fashion conscious and I'm certainly not a trendsetter but I think I'm unique. Aren't we all unique ? We really shouldn't have to worry about "fitting in" or being like everyone else. You don't have to like the things I like and I don't have to like the things you like. For example, I'm not a fan of tattoos ... but that doesn't mean I think any less of those who have them. I know some pretty amazing people with tattoos. I also don't like facial hair on men .. but some of the nicest men I know have facial hair. I'm to a point that I'm focused more on what I'm doing and what makes me happy, instead of worrying about what anyone else thinks or is doing. We should all be doing that. You do you .. as the saying goes ! Be unique ! Be who you want to be .. not who you think other people want you to be ! I'm still working on finding my own fit and I'm determined to stay unique !

I haven't written lately about iFit trainer Tommy Rivs as there hasn't been much to say. His wife posted recently that he is continuing to work on gaining weight and rebuilding his strength, along with increased lung function. He's still not a candidate for a bone marrow transplant but his progress has astounded his oncologist and pulmonologist. No surprise there if you know anything at all about Tommy ! The cancer ravaged his lungs and left a great deal of scar tissue, so it remains to be seen how much function he can regain. The consensus right now is that a bone marrow transplant would be more dangerous than the chance of the cancer returning. I'm so sad for him because I can't imagine being an elite athlete one day and then waking up weighing less than 100 pounds and being winded after only a few steps, aided by a walker. His reality is that he will never return to the life he knew before, and his struggle puts a lot of perspective around the challenges in my life.

Breakfast was a 2.1 ounce 160 calorie cherry cheese roll and a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit creme brulee yogurt. Morning snack was a 120 calorie chocolate shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 3.8 ounce 220 calorie pepperoni pizza melt with a chef salad. Afternoon snack was 1/2 cup cottage cheese (80 calories) and 2 Alyssa's oatmeal cookies (90 calories). Dinner was an 8.5 ounce 260 calorie honey garlic butter sauced chicken with roasted veggies. Evening snack was a 1.3 ounce 140 calorie package of toffee crunch cookies. Total calories for the day are 1150 and I got 80 ounces of water in.

First workout of the day was scenic walk in Maine with iFit trainer Casey Gilbert. Second workout was in Vietnam with iFit trainer John Peel and #3 was another in the Abandoned Deep South series with iFit guide Dalen Spratt for a walk around the abandoned town of Rodney, Mississippi. I logged 84 minutes, 4.8 miles and 578 calories. I also got 20 minutes of lower body workout on the Total Gym. Fitbit says I did over 14,000 steps.

Today wasn't front porch weather even though it was relatively warm this morning. It was windy and rainy and the temp dropped so I stayed warm and cozy inside. It rained on and off all day and the wind did it's best to blow the house down. It only succeeded in blowing down a section of my neighbor's fence. I'm sure he's not happy about that mess ! The wind has died down but it's raining again now (10 pm). Tomorrow is going to be my shopping and house cleaning day but I also have 3 workouts on my schedule .. so we'll see just how disciplined I can be ! On that note, it's about time for a shower and bed. This old body is tired !
