Day 726: The Milestone
🖤 Get well soon Tommy ! #teamrivs #RageOn 🖤
Today is day 726 of Nutrisystem. I am definitely guilty of spending too much time looking at the speedometer over the past 726 days. Today marks an important milestone. Two years ago today I was sitting at my computer, fat and depressed. The photos from Christmas had opened my eyes to just how huge I had gotten and I was in a dark place. I knew I had to do something. The question was: what ? I checked out Weight Watchers but I wasn't interested in meetings and cooking is not my thing. They do offer an online program but you still have to cook your own meals. I looked into Jenny Craig but their program is quite expensive. Medifast is expensive, drastic and they expect you to attend meetings. So I ended up on Nutrisystem's website. I remembered seeing commercials on tv and their slogan was "eat the food and lose the weight". That stuck in my mind. I'd also seen commercials with Marie Osmond and she looked fabulous. I also liked the idea of having 3 meals and 2 snacks delivered to my door. I could handle adding veggies and a 3rd snack ! It also seemed like they weren't very intrusive. I didn't need or want a "coach" on this journey. I knew I had to do it myself. Most of all, the program was affordable. Still, I hesitated to hit the submit button. I went back and forth to the website most of the day and when I finally hit the submit button I felt a huge weight lift off my shoulders. I had taken the first step ! I was stepping out into the unknown. The next day I started looking at the food I had in the freezer, fridge and the cupboards. It was staggering how much junk I had and at first I was planning on EATING it all !!! I wish I could say willpower stopped me from doing that. In reality I came to the realization that I couldn't possibly eat it all before my Nutrisystem order arrived and I was determined to start on January 4. Then came the thought that if I did eat it all I'd just end up with even more weight to lose. So I started throwing it away. I threw away hundreds of dollars worth of food but more importantly I threw away tens of thousands of calories ! It took me a long time to throw away the pints of Haagen Dazs ice cream and the huge bottles of ranch dressing, but I eventually did. The rest, as they say, is history. Here I am 2 years later, less than 7 pounds from my goal weight. I've never regretted signing up for Nutrisystem and it has been worth every penny. You really do just eat the food and lose the weight. My exercise program helped accelerate the loss but for most of the first year I was only exercising once a day and I didn't get the Total Gym until December that year, so the reduction in calories made the biggest impact. As my goal weight draws closer I have definitely been spending all of my time looking at the accelerator so I'm making an effort to pull back from that and slow down a little. Giving myself some leeway to enjoy the holidays helped tremendously because I've been able to transition right back to the reduced calories and more exercise without feeling deprived. I won't lie - I enjoyed eating cookies and drinking a few glasses of wine. I didn't enjoy the night I stuffed myself with cookies but cookies in moderation was good. This is going to be the key to my long term success. I have to be able to transition back from a holiday or special occasion, so this was a good test. Today I'm taking my eyes off the speedometer and working on simply ensuring I keep moving in the right direction. I will reach my goal - I just don't know exactly when it will happen. I do know it will be a pretty exciting day !
Breakfast was a 2.5 ounce 160 calorie package of buttermilk waffles with sugar free syrup and a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit creme brulee yogurt. Morning snack was a 120 calorie chocolate shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was an 8 ounce 220 calorie vegetarian chili with a chef salad. Afternoon snack was a 1.24 ounce 190 calorie Nature Valley Roasted Nut Crunch bar. Dinner was a 9.5 ounce 260 calorie roasted turkey medallions and roasted veggies. Evening snack was a 2.2 ounce 140 calorie lemon zest cake. Total calories for the day are 1170 and I got 80 ounces of water in.
I was awake early today but didn't get up until after 7 so there was no morning workout. I've come to the conclusion that morning workouts are just not going to happen in the winter. I'm just not motivated enough to get out of that warm bed. Both workouts today were in the studio with iFit trainer Ashley Paulson. At lunch was 32 minutes and after work was 30 minutes. I used my own incline & speed settings. I logged 62 minutes, 3.4 miles and 403 calories. After dinner I put in 45 minutes on the Total Gym. Fitbit says I did over 14,000 steps.
