Day 606: New Tomorrows
"A birthday is a new beginning. A birthday
is the first day of a new year. A year of
new tomorrows that is shining, bright and
clear. A year of possibilities as endless as
the sky, and a chance to meet the
challenges in everything you try."
It's day 606 of Nutrisystem. When my next birthday rolls around I plan to be at or below my goal weight, so I have 365 days to get that done and maintain it. It may not be New Year's today but it's the start of a new year of life for me. 2020 hasn't exactly been the greatest year but it certainly hasn't been the worst for me. I've been through much harder times and I am thankful every day for all of the blessings in my life. I worked today so there was no celebration and I'm okay with that. I'm happy to have the job I have. It was a little bittersweet to scroll through the birthday greetings and see so many of my former co-workers names. I really miss my old "work family" ! I'm on vacation next week so I plan to celebrate a little. I may not have had the most exciting birthday but it's not the end of the world. I have so much to be thankful for and so much to look forward to !
Tommy Rivs remains stable but is still very, very ill. Round 3 of chemo is expected to be given Wednesday and that may knock him down for a minute. I remember my own experience and it was nothing compared to what Tommy is going through. I think being able to communicate with him has given the family a tiny bit of peace and hope. They are currently looking for a home to rent near the hospital so that his wife, children and extended family can be nearby and have some semblance of a home life in the coming weeks and months. Tommy still has a long road ahead of him and the comfort of family will be an important part of this journey. We continue to hope and pray for healing. Rage on Tommy and kick cancer's ass !
Breakfast was a 2.5 ounce 160 calorie package of buttermilk waffles with sugar free syrup and a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit toasted coconut vanilla yogurt. Morning snack was a 120 calorie vanilla shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 190 calorie cup of kung pao noodles. The weight is probably 6-8 ounces. I also had a chef salad. Afternoon snack was a 1.24 ounce 190 calorie Nature Valley roasted nut crunch bar. Dinner was a 5 ounce 210 calorie mushroom stuffed chicken breast with roasted veggies. Evening snack was a 2.1 ounce 130 calorie carrot cupcake. Total calories for the day are 1080 and I only got 32 ounces of water in. I'm working on another 32 now but if I drink it all I'll be up all night !
Since today was my birthday I decided my gift to myself would be sleeping in today, so I skipped the morning workout. My lunch workout was a 22 minute hike in St. Lucia with iFit trainer Stacie Clark. The speed was a little slow for me so I set it at 3 mph after a 3 minute warm up. As always, she found plenty of 10% incline in the last half of the workout. I managed to keep the 3 mph speed since the incline only last a few minutes at a time. After work I completed a 44 minute hike up Mount Schoberstein in Austria with iFit trainer Evan Dollard. The entire workout was at max incline and I set the speed at 2.4 mph for the duration. The programmed speed ranged from 2 to 3.7 mph. I wasn't sure I could sustain the incline for the entire workout but I pushed myself and did it. Pretty happy about that. Tomorrow is the LAST workout in the incline series ! I logged 66 minutes, 2.8 miles and 493 calories. After dinner I put in the usual 45-50 minutes on the Total Gym. Fitbit says I did just over 12,000 steps.
I had planned to have a glass of wine to celebrate my birthday tonight but by the time my day was "done" I wasn't in a wine mood, so I didn't bother with the extra calories. I'll have a cocktail next week while I'm on vacation ! I was kind of sad that I wasn't at the State Fair today. I didn't go for years because I had no one to go with and now that I've been able to go the past couple of years I really look forward to it. Hopefully next year it'll be back and I'll be able to get out there and enjoy it. This years birthday was spent working, but I sat on the front porch and enjoyed the sunny weather. This evening I finally made a decision on window treatments for the front porch ... fabric shower curtains !! I figure they are designed to be in moist places and my porch is not airtight. They're also nice and wide and the perfect length ! I'd have had to buy at least 10 pairs of traditional curtains, if not more, to cover all the windows and that was more than I wanted to spend. Shower curtains will be easy to hang on cheap aluminum rods with shower curtain rings too. I can add cheap sheers underneath if needed, since shower curtains are not lined. If I get tired of my bedroom curtains I may go with shower curtains there too, since the standard length is 72" and that is what I need. Curtains will be here Wednesday and I'll pick up rods and rings this weekend. I'm excited ! Below is a pic of the curtains.
It's late and tomorrow is another work day so it's about time for a shower and bed. There will be no skipping the morning workout so I need to be up on time !
