Day 540: Happiness
"Happiness is not just a place, but also a
process. It's an ongoing process of fresh
challenges and it takes the right
attitudes and activities to continue
to be happy."
~Ed Diener~
It's Day 540 of Nutrisystem. You could call that 18 months based on a 30 day month ! I had hoped to be at my goal weight by the end of June but I realized that wasn't going to happen so I reset the goal to my birthday, August 31st. I can honestly say I'd be happy with my progress even if I never lose another pound but I intend to stick with this until I reach my goal. I've already done so many things I never thought possible, so the prospect of losing another 13-14 pounds is nothing. I will get there .. maybe by 8-31, maybe not .. when I get there doesn't really matter. In my heart I know I'm doing everything I possibly can to eat right and exercise so I just have to be patient and trust the process. I chose today's quote because I was thinking this morning how happy I am. How can you complain when your office is your front porch and your view is blue skies and sunshine ? I've realized I don't need a lot to be happy. I'm happy to have the ability to use the treadmill 3 times a day. I'm happy to have the ability to use the Total Gym. I'm happy to be able to continue with the Nutrisystem program. I'm happy life is becoming more normal and I can spend time with my family. I'm happy to have a closet full of new clothes in sizes I have never purchased before. It may not be designer fashion but that's not me anyways. I'm happy to have a home I love. It might look shabby to others but this is my happy place. I'm happy to still have my job after 35 years. When I look at what I have vs what I don't have ... I can't really think of anything that needs to be on the "don't have" list. I have what I need, I have what I want, and I'm happy with that. It's taken a long time to get there and this is where I hope to stay !
Breakfast was a 2.1 ounce 160 calorie cherry cheese roll and a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit strawberry cheesecake yogurt. Morning snack was a 155 calorie vanilla shake with protein powder. Lunch was a 3.8 ounce 220 calorie pepperoni pizza melt with a chef salad. Dressing added 30 calories. Afternoon snack was a 1.3 ounce 180 calorie Jif Power Ups chewy granola bar. Dinner was a 7.5 ounce 220 calorie chicken fettuccine alfredo over riced cauliflower. I also finished the roasted veggies. After dinner I treated myself to a 95 calorie Michelob Ultra since it's Friday and I'm on vacation ! Evening snack was a 1.9 ounce 120 calorie tiramisu. This was one of my favorite desserts and it is no longer available. I held onto this last one for a long time ! Total calories for the day are 1260. (yes, I'm over 1200 but my range is up to 1260 so I'm good) and I got 64 ounces of water in.
I was actually awake when the alarm went off again today and I rolled out of bed at 6:34. I think that is a new record for me ! I was tired and didn't want to but I did. I made the bed, put on my exercise gear, fed the cats, brewed a cup of coffee and warmed my breakfast pastry. A few sips of coffee and that delicious pastry and I was on the treadmill at 7. First workout of the day was 40 minutes in Lake Tahoe. It's hard to believe but that 40 minutes on the treadmill energized me for the entire day ! The workout was a steady 3 mph and there was some brief incline. My lunchtime workout was another 20 minutes in the Grand Canyon. Today was 1:1 intervals which meant 1 minute at 3 mph with a 1 minute recovery at 2.6 mph. About 10 minutes in we hit the 10% incline and that stayed with us for most of the last 10 minutes. After work it was time for 30 minutes of nice no incline intervals on the beach in Costa Rica. We started with a 1:2 ratio of 45 seconds at 3.3 mph with 90 second recoveries at 2.6 mph. Then we had 3 intervals at a 1:1 ratio, this time 2 minutes at 3.4 mph with a 2 minute recovery at 2.4 mph. I logged 90 minutes, 4.2 miles and 487 calories. It's my night off from the Total Gym. Fitbit says I've done 15,000 steps today. Tomorrow I will complete the last workout in the Lake Tahoe and Costa Rica series. I still have 4 to go in the Grand Canyon but I should be done with that series by Monday. Since I'm on vacation I didn't put anything on my schedule for next week. I will take each day as it comes but that doesn't mean I intend to slack off.
Today was a beautiful day to sit on the front porch and work. We had blue skies and sunshine all day and it warmed up into the high 70's or low 80's. It was a comfortable weather day. Tomorrow looks to be rainy so I'm glad I was able to enjoy the beautiful weather all week ! I have nothing planned for the weekend other than a quick trip to the grocery store for the usual truckload of veggies ! Monday I'll be at the dentist for my new crown (hopefully that appointment won't take 3 hours) and I think Tuesday or Wednesday will be a casino day. I'm sure there will be a shopping trip thrown in there somewhere too !
On that note, it's getting late and I'm getting tired. Time for a shower and then it's off to bed !
