Day 144: Remember
"Our debt to the heroic men and and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices. ~President Harry S. Truman~
Although I write this blog to document my journey towards health and fitness I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge Memorial Day and all that it means. My dad lost a brother, Charles Scofield, in World War II. My dad was the baby of his family so he was only 5 at the time and didn't really remember his brother. Charles was lost in the Philippines and there was no body to send home to his family. I'm sad that I never had a chance to know this man and he never really had a chance to live his life. So many have been lost in wars and we continue to lose young men and women today. I appreciate the sacrifice each and every service member and their families make to preserve our freedoms around the world. Thank you !
Breakfast was a 4.4 ounce 180 calorie turkey sausage and egg muffin. I added some fat free cheddar cheese to it and it did absolutely nothing for flavor, so I won't bother with those few extra calories again. Coffee was Green Mountain Breakfast Blend. I decided to have a heartier breakfast today since I was going to be out all day. I did miss the cinnamon roll and the cherry cheese roll ! Morning snack was a 155 calorie chocolate shake with peanut butter powder. I was out for the rest of the day so my only other meal was at the Turning Stone Casino buffet. I started with a chef salad that included a hard boiled egg, banana peppers, a bit of shredded cheese, a few green olives and fat free italian dressing. After the salad I had steamed broccoli, a small scoop of General Tso's chicken, 1 salt potato, a slice of roast turkey and a piece of kielbasa. I also had a glass of white zinfandel wine. Again, this was hard to figure for calories - the perils of eating out ! Like yesterday, I saved lunch, afternoon snack and dinner for this meal. That equates to 4 Power Fuels (which are 80-120 calories each) and 3 Smart Carbs (also 80-120 calories each). So from a calorie perspective I had 560 - 840 calories to work with. The only carbs I had were the potato and the coating on the General Tso's chicken and I doubt that came anywhere near 240-360 calories. The meat may have equaled 8 ounces so I think I'm good from a Power Fuel perspective. My evening snack was a 1.9 ounce 120 calorie tiramisu.
I think I will always be able to make healthy choices when eating out, so I'm not going to obsess about counting calories. At the same time, I am also not going to overindulge myself. I opted not to exercise tonight as I have a bit of a headache and I'm kind of tired. I got very little water today so I might be a little dehydrated. That can cause a headache. So I'm trying to get as much water as I can in before I go to bed. I'm on vacation so I'm also going to try and get 2 workouts a day in while I'm home, so I'm not going to fall off the exercise wagon ! I did haul all the cardboard out to the curb along with the rest of my trash, so I got a little bit of cardio going up and down the porch steps .. lol !
It was so nice to see a deep blue sky and sunshine when I got up this morning ! I was tired last night and slept great until about 7:30. I spent most of the day at the casino with mom, my younger sister and her husband. We had a great day ! Didn't win anything, but that's ok. We had a free meal ! Tomorrow I need to go to Walmart and pick up a few things, unless it's raining. I just had the car washed today so if it's raining she'll be staying in the garage ! I'm also going to scrub the floor and baseboards in the laundry room. My cats sling food particles around and of course they track litter all over the place so the floor gets pretty grungy. Fun times ahead !
