Day 53: A Blustery Day
One look out the window this morning and today became a vacation day. With the wind and snow you couldn’t see a thing. Schools were closed and there was a travel advisory issued to keep people off the roads. I’m glad I was home as the power went out around noon and stayed out for over 2 hours. Without the electric heater the laundry room temp dropped into the 50’s so I brought the cats into the house with me. The main part of the house dropped down to 65 before the power and heat came back on. I’ve been letting the cats in the house when I’m home but they just walk around, visit me for a minute and then go back to the laundry room - so I guess they’re happy there.
Breakfast today was a 2.8 ounce 160 calorie package of pancakes with peanut butter, which adds about 95 calories. I also had some triple chocolate coffee and a hazelnut coffee. My morning snack was a 155 calorie chocolate shake with peanut butter powder and 1/2 cup of cottage cheese, which counts as an 80 calorie Smart Carb. Lunch was three-peat of Saturday and Sunday ... another 4 ounce 220 calorie chicken fajita melt with salsa. I hurried up and made that before the power could go out again ! I also had some raw carrots as I haven’t been eating many veggies for the past few days. My afternoon snack was some Laughing Cow cheese (90 calories) with some Good Thins crackers (120 calories). Dinner tonight was a new frozen entree - 10 ounce 280 calorie salisbury steak with mac and cheese. It was pretty darn good ! My evening snack was a 2.1 ounce 140 calorie carrot cake mini loaf.
I can’t ever remember having high winds for such a long time. Today I watched the gigantic pine trees across the street swaying in the wind. We’re talking trees that are probably 100 feet tall and 40 feet around. I wasn’t worried about them falling on my house as they’re a house or two over but they’re a good indicator of how powerful these winds are. A pine tree did go down somewhere else in the village and that caused the power outage. I’m continuing to recover from my cold. I started feeling better yesterday but I was a bit weak. The weakness is gone today along with more of the sinus congestion. I’m still coughing some but I expect that to linger for a few days. The wind calmed down this evening and at times it has been eerily quiet. I’m glad this storm is pretty much over !!
