Day 14: Believe in Yourself

If 2019 is going to be the new me then I have to believe in myself. The old me didn’t. The old me was stuck in a rut. Some days it felt like I was on a treadmill that never stopped. Having already decided this was going to be a year of change made the shock of our office closing a little easier to take. I’m so ready for change and I really do believe in myself. I have a lot to offer ! I’m not a 20 something fresh out of college waving around a degree but I can guarantee you my next boss will be glad they hired me. It seems like a lot of folks from my office are headed to Florida so look out ! I hope it turns out to be an amazing adventure for all of them. As for me, I’m turning my focus back to self-improvement. That doesn’t mean I’m not taking steps to prepare for the future - because I am. It just means I’m going to keep doing my job the way I always have and ignore the background noise. You won’t find me brown nosing the boss, jockeying for position or trying to be something I’m not. If nothing else MY integrity will remain intact.
Day 14. The end of my second week on Nutrisystem. The actual reason I started these Notes. Tomorrow we shall see what the scale has to say. I was disappointed last week and I haven’t peeked at the scale this week, so I have no idea what it may say. I can tell this is going to be a love-hate relationship !
It was SO hard to climb out of that warm comfy bed this morning ! It was a chilly -4 degrees when I left for work. I turned the heat up a few degrees for the cats before I left and I’m glad I did because it was only 20 when I got home. This weekend is going to be fun .. they’re calling for a foot of snow by Sunday night and wind chills of -25 !! Sounds like a repeat of the storm that missed us last weekend but we probably won’t see The Weather Channel people fanned out across the state. We’re used to snow by the foot ! The good news is my pipes are fine in this sub-zero weather ! I am very relieved and cautiously optimistic that my plumbing troubles are behind me !
One thing I’ve noticed since I gave up my XL coffee with cream and sugar every day - I no longer have heart palpitations. Every now and then I’d get that little flutter that made you catch your breath for a brief second. It hasn’t happened in the past 2 weeks. I do still have coffee every day but it’s typically only one cup, maybe 2 on the weekend. Could be a coincidence .. who knows. Breakfast today was a 3.8 ounce 90 calorie Turkey Ham and Cheese omelet. Yes – 90 calories !!! It was really good so I’d be happy to have that every day ! Who ever thought a microwaved omelet could be good !?!?!? I think it helped that I thawed it out before microwaving and I’m thinking for life after Nutrisystem I could easily make a few tiny omelets and freeze them myself. The package said to have it with a serving of fruit but I hadn’t seen that and don’t have any fruit in the house anyway. Lunch was a 4.3 ounce 240 calorie Southwest Fiesta Melt – sort of like a hot pocket with rice, beans, corn and cheese. It was pretty good too ! I had a 1 ounce 150 calorie bag of white cheddar popcorn for an afternoon snack. I liked the white cheddar better than the butter flavored popcorn. Dinner tonight was a 7.5 ounce 200 calorie cup of vegetarian chili. That’s a grand total of 16.6 ounces of food, just over a pound, for the day. I also have a Nutrisystem shake every morning - it’s basically 8 ounces of water and 2 scoops of chocolate flavored protein powder. I don’t even want to think about how much I was eating before in calories or net weight - I’m sure it was double or triple what I’m eating now ! I’m only at 800 calories for today so if I am hungry later I’ll cook a few veggies. You may wonder why I mention the weight and calorie counts. It’s actually pretty eye opening and I’m educating myself on portion size and being conscious of calories. Small packages can pack big calories ! I was never a proponent of counting calories but I can see now why you need to have some awareness of what you’re taking in.
It’s not going to be quite so cold tonight and there is snow is in the forecast for tonight, tomorrow and the weekend. The plow jockeys will be happy ! The guy who plows for me told me by this time last year he’d plowed my driveway 16 times ($320) ... as opposed to 5 ($100) this year !
