Day 780: Break The Routine

Today is day 780 of Nutrisystem and I did break the routine and have some fun. I was sitting at the kitchen table this morning thinking about going grocery shopping. Once I tried to put a list together I realized I didn't need anything. I wanted to go to Christmas Tree Shop and since it was a nice sunny day I decided to call mom and see if she wanted to go with me. She did, so we browsed through there and then went to Point Place Casino for dinner and a couple hours at the slots. I didn't worry about exercising today. I didn't worry about what I was going to eat. I'm stuck in the house all week (so is mom for the most part) so the weekends are my only opportunity to be out and about. We had a fun day and I won and lost at the slots all day, in the end departing with a loss of $40. That's a far cry from the days I'd lose $300-$400 and then kick myself all the way home. Paying off my credit card debt was a good lesson and I'm more motivated than ever to hold on to as much of my hard earned money as possible ! I did spend a bit at Christmas Tree Shop but I was stocking up on k-cups and sugar free coffee syrups and found some plastic storage items that I really needed too. They had nice bins with tops for $3.99 and I bought a few of those for my pantry to hold all the small odds and ends. I also bought a set of plastic drawers on wheels for $9.99. I haven't decided yet where I'm going to use them. I also bought a couple of small rugs for $4.99 (made in USA !) that I'm going to use on the front porch and in the laundry room. I found a cute item that I'm going to give to my older sister, perhaps for her birthday in June. I can't say what it is because she occasionally reads this blog. I also picked up some pretzels and some Skinny Pop popcorn. Some days I need a little extra carb so I'll have a handful of pretzels. The popcorn is an occasional treat that Nutrisystem allows. I've gotten better at portion control so I've allowed it back in the house ! Both items were a better price than Walmart or Wegman's so I took advantage of that. I enjoyed the break from my routine and I feel more energized to take on the week ahead. Sometimes I go and go and go and then crash instead of taking a break here and there. I want all of my lifestyle changes to be sustainable and I've found that having a degree of flexibility works best for me.
Breakfast was a cinnamon roll and a Light & Fit creme brulee yogurt. At Point Place I had a veggie burger and a salad. I only ate half of the roll because it wasn't toasted enough and I also like to minimize my carb intake. When I came home I had the rest of yesterday's buffalo chicken wrap for dinner and a scone with a glass of milk for dessert. I'm probably over 1200 calories for the day but I'm ok with that.
I didn't get any exercise other than walking today and Fitbit says I did just over 6000 steps. Not exactly my best day but I'll be back on track tomorrow. In the week ahead I'm taking a break from the upper body part of my Total Gym workout so I may do a longer treadmill workout after work to compensate. My left shoulder has become very painful and even though it doesn't hurt while I use the Total Gym I am guessing the exercise is not helping the situation. So I've decided to give it a rest for one week (possibly two) and then see how it feels. I'm left handed so I do everything with the left arm so it's likely an overuse type issue between exercise and shoveling snow and everything else I do with it. It's given me trouble before so this is nothing new.
Weather was pretty nice today but we have a winter weather advisory starting at 7 am tomorrow and lasting until 1 am Tuesday. Possibility of 4-7 inches of snow, which is really nothing for us. Since I'm not going anywhere I don't have to worry about it ! It's hard to believe a week from tomorrow it'll be March. Spring will be here before we know it and it seems like winter just got going ! On that note it's about time for a shower and bed. I didn't get much sleep last night and I was up early today so I'm tired !
