“There are times when I'm exercising,
or times when I'm around food, and
I'll think, I just can't do this today.
But, I stop and think to myself,
when you think you can't, try to
do it anyway."
~ Steven Cremen ~
Today is day 690 of Nutrisystem. Based on a 30 day month, this marks 23 months on Nutrisystem. Today started off as a "I can't do this today" kind of day. I got up late, lingered over coffee and just wanted to eat whatever I wanted and sit on the couch all day. I was tired. I was hungry. I had my breakfast. I had my morning shake. My stomach was a bottomless pit clamoring for more. This is not the first time my day has started off this way. I had a third cup of coffee and spent a couple of hours working. Although I left my work in good shape Friday I had a lot of things that were ready for others to do their part as of today so I opted to put in the time today instead of delaying resolution another week. This was totally my decision and it'll make my return to work on Monday so much less stressful. If nothing else it occupied my mind with something other than eating and exercising for a couple hours. By the time I was done I was finally ready to embrace the day. Work took my mind off food and the 44 minute treadmill workout I planned to start the day with long enough to change that "can't" to "can". I push myself hard and sometimes it catches up to me. Over time I've learned to listen to both my mind and my body a little more and I do occasionally step back and slow down. It helps me stay motivated.
I guess Tommy Rivs family realized that people were starting to worry because today we received an amazing update. Tommy has actually been at home for the past week ! He spent 2 weeks at the rehab facility and was then sent home. He is back in the hospital now for a scheduled round of chemo. It's a necessary evil but it gets harder every time. You start feeling better and then bam, chemo body slams you and the journey back starts all over. I hope this is an indication that the PET scan results were promising and the chemo is doing its job. Only time will tell. My faith might have faltered but I haven't given up on that miracle. Rage on Tommy !
Breakfast was a 2.3 ounce 250 calorie cup of maple & brown sugar oatmeal. With the added water it's more like 8 ounces and it's a hearty breakfast. Morning snack was a 120 calorie chocolate shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 4 ounce 230 calorie spinach & cheese pretzel melt and a chef salad. Afternoon snack was a 1.42 ounce 190 calorie Nature Valley Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate Protein bar. Dinner was a 4.7 ounce 250 calorie meatloaf sandwich with roasted veggies. Evening snack was a 2.2 ounce 140 calorie lemon zest cake. Total calories for the day are 1180 and I got 80 ounces of water in.
My iFit day started late today. It was after 3:30 when I got on the treadmill for 44 minutes in New Zealand with iFit trainer Zac Marion. I got back on the treadmill just before 6:30 for another 31 minutes in New Zealand with Zac. Last workout of the day was 22 minutes in Bora Bora with iFit trainer Stacie Clark. I logged 98 minutes, 5.5 miles and 659 calories. I did not use the Total Gym - see explanation below.

I enjoyed my official first day of vacation ! As I mentioned I worked a couple hours but I also did a couple loads of laundry. So exciting ! In all honesty it was just nice to do my own thing for the day. Today I started having some pain in the front of my left ankle. I pushed through all 3 treadmill workouts (and probably shouldn't have) so it's really painful now. A google search indicates this is a common problem with runners and could just be an inflamed tendon. I don't run so I doubt it's a stress fracture, but I've been power walking pretty heavily the last couple weeks. From what I read shoes that are tied too tightly can irritate the tendon that runs across the front of the ankle and I have a tendency to tie mine pretty tight AND I leave them on all day long. Looks like I won't be doing that anymore ! I'll be out tomorrow so there will be no treadmill. I did plan to try power walking all or part of a turkey trot 5K iFit is doing live on Thursday but I would say that is out now. I may end up having to take a break for a couple days and slow my pace and perhaps reduce the amount of time I spend on the treadmill until it feels better. If that happens I'll just put in some extra Total Gym time. I have several accessories that I've never used so there are plenty of other exercises I can do on it that don't involve the feet. I used to have foot pain all the time because of my weight and now here I am having foot pain again because I'm doing something about my weight !! Oh, the irony !
It's time for my annual biometric screening so that's where I'll be tomorrow morning. Once that is done I'm picking up mom and heading to Turning Stone Casino. I have free gift to pick up so we'll have lunch/dinner and enjoy a couple hours at the slots. The way COVID is heating up they may just end up being shut down again so we might as well enjoy it while we can. I don't go there as much in the winter, especially if snow is predicted.
I like to end my days on a positive note and despite my foot issue today was a good day ! I received the missing items from my Powerful Foods oatmeal order ! I was starting to think they weren't going to make good on their promise but UPS showed up this evening with the goods ! So I got my missing 12 cups of apple cinnamon oatmeal and a free 6 pack of their protein drink. I love their oatmeal and with 20 grams of protein it fits perfectly into the Nutrisystem plan, so I'm glad they made good. I will order from them again next time they run a sale and free shipping ! I paid about $2.59 per cup with the sale and an online discount code so that was a great deal ! I had bought some of the Kodiak oatmeal cups and although it's good the portion is about half of what you get from Powerful's oatmeal and the calories are the same ! The protein drinks are 170 calories and although that's 50 calories higher than a Nutrisystem shake, it would still fit in the Nutrisystem guidelines as 1 Power Fuel and 1 Smart Carb - so it's something I could have with breakfast (2 PF/1 SC) or as an afternoon snack (1 PF/1 SC) once in a while. I got the mocha espresso flavor so I can't wait to try it ! On that note, it's long past time for a shower and bed since I have to be up early !
