Day 504: Permission To Pause

"Self-care means giving yourself

 permission to pause."

 ~Cecilia Tran~

It's Day 504 of Nutrisystem and Day 67 of Quarantine, NY On Pause or Shelter In Place ... whatever you want to call it. Today was Wendy On Pause while I went on my dental adventure. I couldn't admit it to myself last night but I knew today would end up being a complete deviation from what has become my normal routine. I guess I'm always hopeful and there's nothing wrong with that. I've said on numerous occasions that life will happen but the key is not to let one day become 2 and so on. It would be different if I was sick or injured - I'm not - so tomorrow I have no reason not to exercise, eat on plan and get enough water in.

Breakfast was a 2.8 ounce 150 calorie pancakes with sugar free syrup. Power fuel was a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit creme brulee yogurt. After the dentist I had a 350 calorie muffin - see explanation below. Dinner was a 7.5 ounce 220 calorie chicken fettuccine alfredo over riced cauliflower. Evening snack was a 2.2 ounce 140 calorie lemon zest cake. I was still hungry so I had a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit strawberry cheesecake yogurt. Total calories for the day are 1150 and I didn't get much water in. I didn't exceed my normal calories so that is a good thing ! I did miss having salad and veggies so I expect I'll enjoy those a little more tomorrow.

Today was my root canal and I spent 3.5 hours in the dentists chair ! Needless to say I was completely exhausted when I left there and was never happier to pull in my driveway than I was today ! Off came the clothes, on went the jammies and after getting a cup of coffee and a 350 calorie double chocolate muffin (don't judge - I was starving and needed to eat something that didn't require a lot of chewing) I settled on the couch to watch The Mummy and The Mummy Returns. Can I tell you it's not easy to drink coffee when half of your face is numb ! Truthfully I wanted to go to bed then and there but that would have been a bit extreme. I cannot say enough about the dentist, he was wonderful. This was my first experience with Dr Alvarez at Aspen Dental in Dewitt so I had no idea what to expect, especially with what is going on now. He took the time to explain every step of the procedure and make sure I wasn't feeling any pain along the way. The dental assistant was wonderful too. I'm not really a baby about it but Donna held my hand while he was injecting the Novocaine ! My root canal was complicated by the fact the tooth had 3 "canals" when most only have 2. It was further complicated by the crazy angle of the 3rd canal and the fact the tooth has a very old and very large silver filling. That's why it took 3.5 hours, 2 rounds of Novocaine and many trips to the x-ray chair. He wasn't willing to do a half ass or "good enough" job with it and I love that ! I will take a dentist who is a perfectionist and goes the extra mile any day ! I'll be going back on June 15 to start the crown process.

I did not exercise at all today. I slept in this morning and I pretty much stayed on the couch the rest of the day. I'm going to bed early just to be able to rest. Sure, I could have pushed myself to get on the treadmill or Total Gym tonight but I really just needed the time to de-stress. I tend to build stress up over time and once the source of it is addressed I pretty much crash. I've been on edge since the evening I discovered the swelling in my mouth and face, so over a week now. Now that I've had the root canal it's a huge relief and all that stress is gone. So today was about self-care and tomorrow I'll be back to my normal routine. The novocaine is worn off and I have no pain, so that is a good thing. My gums are still swollen but a few more days of antibiotics should take care of that. I rearranged my iFit schedule so I'm all ready to go in the morning - no excuses ! I'm glad tomorrow is Friday and then I'm on vacation !

Weather today could not have been nicer. It was nice to come home to a freshly mowed lawn and we had blue skies and sunshine all day. Temp was in the low 70's but we might just see 80 next week !

I showered this morning so after a careful brush of the teeth I'll be heading for bed. Yes, it is not even 8 pm and it's not even dark out but I just want to be able to lie down. I'll probably play some games on my tablet for a few hours.
