Day 479: Your Purpose

"Every day focus on your purpose.

Remember why you do what you do.

We don't get burned out because of

what we do. We get burned out because

we forget why we do it."

Day 479 of Nutrisystem and Day 42 of quarantine. Today was a good day to think and reflect on my purpose and why I do what I do. I made a life changing decision on December 29, 2018 and I've never regretted it. For the first time in my life I actually made a decision and stuck with it, no matter how hard it got. Three days after I started the program I was faced with the prospect of losing my job. After a few sleepless nights I decided there was no reason not to keep going since I had to eat anyways ! Nutrisystem costs me less than $10 a day (thanks to discounted gift cards from Costco & frequent 50% off sales from Nutrisystem) and I was spending more than that on lunch alone during the week ! Here I am nearly 16 months later, down 130 pounds, and I know why I'm doing this. I'm doing it because I want to feel and look better. I want to be able to enjoy the remaining years of my life instead of eating myself into an early grave. In the beginning I was afraid I'd get tired of the food, but so far I haven't. Before Nutrisystem I used to eat the same things all the time, so this was nothing new. I actually really enjoy the food and until recently the occasional restaurant meal livened things up enough to keep me from getting tired of it. I am looking forward to a nice steak dinner when the coast is clear. I'm also missing the veggie burger at Point Place Casino ! I do get tired of eating salad and veggies every day but it's either that or starve !

Breakfast was a 2.5 ounce 160 calorie package of buttermilk waffles. Power fuel was a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit creme brulee yogurt. Morning snack was a 155 calorie vanilla shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 3.8 ounce 220 calorie pepperoni pizza melt with a chef salad. Dressing added 30 calories. l never got around to an afternoon snack. Dinner was a 5 ounce 210 calorie mushroom stuffed chicken breast with a bowl of roasted veggies. Evening snack was a 2.2 ounce 140 calorie lemon zest cake. Total calories for the day are 995 and I got 64 ounces of water in.

First workout of the day was a marathon 42 minute walk along the Thames in London with iFit guide Duncan Duff. The pace was a steady 3 mph and there was no incline. I was feeling tired and unmotivated today and I really had to dig deep to #1 tackle this particular workout and #2 get off the couch ! I'm glad I did because I felt so much better afterwards and I actually enjoyed seeing the sights ! It still amazes me how good you can feel after a good workout. Before dinner I completed #8 in the Grand Canyon series with iFit trainer John Peel. This workout was only 21 minutes but most of it was at 8 or 10% incline and the pace was 2.6 mph so I definitely worked up a sweat. I logged 63 minutes, 2.9 miles and 367 calories. I didn't use the Total Gym as it got too late and I was too lazy ! I'll be back at it tomorrow.

Today was a grey rainy day so I'm glad I got out and enjoyed the beautiful day yesterday ! As tired as I was I had a hard time getting to sleep last night. I ended up taking an over the counter sleep aid (basically Benadryl) around 2 am and slept until 9. Woke up still tired and a bit achy. Seems I used a few muscles in my arms and shoulders that haven't been used in a while, despite the time I spend on the Total Gym. I guess I need to explore some new moves ! I took some Tylenol before I got up and reminded myself I'm not 20 anymore ! At least my back and legs didn't hurt ! I spent plenty of time on the couch watching tv today and I'm ok with that since Sunday is supposed to be a day of rest. Even though I'm working from home I don't have much spare time during the week so it's nice to relax on Sunday.

Time to head for bed and hope for sleep. I'm not tired at all so we'll see what happens !
