Day 452: Finding Joy

"Sometimes you have to let go of the

picture of what you thought life would

be like and learn to find joy in the

 story you are actually living."

 ~Rachel Marie Martin~

It's Day 452 of Nutrisystem and Day 15 of staying at home. When I first heard about this virus never in a million years did I expect to be where we are today. Why would I ? This is unlike anything most people alive have ever experienced. With the initial shock worn off, I've pretty much adjusted to this new normal. I still worry about the long term effects this is going to have on our country but there is little I can do about that, other than support our local businesses if and when they reopen. I woke up this morning wishing this was a dream and that I'd wake up soon. I'm glad I have my work and my exercise program to keep me busy ! If I were not on Nutrisystem I'd be sitting here eating all day long and that's a scary thought !

Breakfast was a 2.1 ounce 160 calorie cherry cheese roll. Power fuel was a 5.3 ounce 80 calorie Light & Fit toasted coconut vanilla yogurt. Morning snack was a 155 calorie chocolate shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 3.7 ounce 200 calorie grilled chicken sandwich with a chef salad. Dressing added 30 calories. Afternoon snack was a 1.3 ounce 190 calorie package of Jif Power Ups peanut butter clusters with some raw carrots. Dinner was a 5 ounce 210 calorie mushroom stuffed chicken breast with a bowl of roasted veggies. Evening snack was a 2.1 ounce 130 calorie strawberry shortcake cupcake. Total calories for the day are 1155 and I got 64 ounces of water in.

Today's lunchtime workout was a 16 minute hike in Hawaii with iFit trainer Chris Clark. After a 2 minute warm up the incline went to max (10%) and stayed there about 8 minutes. Speed varied from 1.8 mph to 3.3 mph and it definitely challenged me ! After work I completed a 32 minute interval walk in Iceland with iFit trainer Jonnie Gale. This one didn't have much incline but the intervals were no joke. The first 4 intervals were 3 minutes at 3.4 mph with 90 second recoveries at 2.6 mph. The second set of 4 intervals were 90 seconds on and 45 seconds off at the same speeds. I logged 48 minutes, 2.2 miles and 298 calories. After dinner I spent about 40 minutes on the Total Gym, although I was tempted to skip it. I'm glad I didn't because I felt really good afterwards !

As predicted, today was a rainy dreary day. Looks like we're going to have plenty of April showers for our May flowers ! Maybe the silver lining is we'll get the crappy weather out of the way now so we can have blue skies and sunshine when the world reopens ! I'm using some of my free time to look at garden ideas online and can't wait to get started !

Last night I poured a glass of wine to have with dinner and after a couple sips I put it in the fridge, with plans to enjoy the rest after my Total Gym workout. I never did drink it so I had it with tonight's dinner. Since I like sweet wines I don't have it often because of the calories, so it's a treat for me ! Although it's nothing new for me, I'm still taking time every day to think about all of the blessings in my life. Despite the current state of the world things could be so much worse. I hope when this is over all of the people on the front lines receive the recognition they deserve. I've never been one to worship celebrities, athletes or "influencers" and they're not heroes in my book. The heroes are all of the people keeping this country going right now and none of them are celebrities, athletes or influencers. It's that healthcare professional next door .. the retail store clerks .. the truckers bringing goods to the stores and the factory workers manufacturing them .. the hospital janitor .. the home town diner trying to stay afloat by serving up takeout and the customer service associates still answering the phones, to name a few. Those are my heroes !

On that note, I'm headed for a shower and bed.
