Day 352: Check Back Tomorrow

This is not the post I intended to publish today. I had a really great day ... until a couple hours ago. Driving home from my mom's I rounded a curve between Parish and Mexico and had to swerve hard to avoid a deer that was just standing in the road. Once I hit the snow on the shoulder of the road I lost control of the car and after a wild ride ended up stuck in the snow parallel to the road, down a slight embankment. Thankfully I was not hurt (nor was the deer) but my car sustained some damage to the rear quarter panel on the passenger side. I don't think I've ever been quite so scared, because I thought the car was going to flip over. I couldn't get the driver's side door open because the car was up against some heavy brush, which probably stopped it. As I was climbing from the driver's side to the passenger side I was thinking "it's a good thing I don't still weigh 300 pounds" .. because I'd have had a tough time doing it ! After a call to AAA and my mom I settled in to wait for help. Several people stopped to see if I was okay while I was waiting, which I thought was really nice. There are still good people out there ! The tow truck driver was wonderful. His only concern was my welfare and I sat in his truck to get warm while he called another truck to come out for traffic control. Leave it to me to go off the road on a blind curve at the crest of a hill ! I got lucky because the car came to a stop between a telephone pole and a traffic sign. Had I hit either of them the outcome could have been much worse. Had I hit the deer head on at 60 mph it probably would have totaled my car and I might have been injured. So all in all, I was lucky.

I have to look at this as just another bump in the road of life. Accidents happen. No one was hurt. The car can be repaired and insurance will cover it. That is all that matters.

Right now I am working on trying to relax. I have an incredible headache, which is likely just tension, and I'm still a bit shaky. Hopefully I'll be able to sleep at some point. For now I'm on the couch with a warm blanket and Abby is snoozing next to me.
