Day 172: Courage

Pure dumb luck to stumble across this quote. Dorothy graduated from Syracuse University in 1914 ! She was a journalist and radio broadcaster that some regarded as the "First Lady of American Journalism", according to Wikipedia.

Courage is needed this week to face the upcoming changes in my professional life. In 4 days I will depart on vacation and most of the people I've worked with for many years will depart our office for good. I'm sad to see this 34 year ride end for them and I worry a bit about what the future holds for me. But, as the quote says, there is always tomorrow. My focus on losing weight is helping keep my mind off things. If I hadn't committed to Nutrisystem back on December 29, 2018 I would likely have descended into emotional eating once the announcement of our office closure came on January 7th. I'd have spent the last 6 months comforting myself with food and I can only imagine what I'd weigh by now. I've lost just about 70 pounds in that time frame ... imagine how many I could have gained ! That scares me, to be quite honest. At this point I can only hope that we all find a rainbow with a pot of gold at the end of the road !

Breakfast today was a 2.1 ounce 160 calorie cherry cheese roll with caramel vanilla cream coffee. Second cup was triple chocolate. Morning snack was a 155 calorie vanilla shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 4 ounce 230 calorie meatball parmesan melt with raw carrots. Afternoon snack was 1/2 cup cottage cheese (80 calories) and a 0.65 ounce bag of Skinny Pop popcorn (100 calories). This left me 475 calories for dinner and an evening snack. Dinner was a 7.5 ounce 220 calorie chicken fettuccine alfredo. I mixed in about a cup of riced cauliflower and added about 2 teaspoons of romano cheese (40 calories). I don't worry too much about calories for "extras" like the romano cheese or salad dressing as I don't use them every day and I use them sparingly. If I used them every day I would definitely have to "count" the calories. Evening snack was a 170 calorie cinnamon coffee cake. This brings my calories for the day to 1115. Even with the romano cheese I'm under 1200, so all is well. Got all 64 ounces of water in too !

Weather today was so-so. Not much sun and a bit of wind but it warmed up into the low 80's. Rain is predicted tonight .. something we do not need ! Put the trash out tonight but decided to hold off on the recyclables in case it rains. Got my workout in so I'm done for the night ! I had a tough time getting to sleep last night so I'm a bit tire. It was warm upstairs so I finally gave in and turned on the air conditioning. Once the room cooled down I was able to go to sleep. Tonight I'm going to put the air on as soon as I go upstairs, which will be very soon ! I am ready for that warm shower and my comfy bed !
