Day 115: A New Life

“Every day is an opportunity for a new life. Every day you stand at the tipping point of your life. And on any one day you can change the future - through the way that you feel.” ~Rhonda Byrne~
New life is an appropriate sentiment today, since I went to a baby shower. Babies are such miracles, one that I never had the opportunity to experience first hand. A sweet little girl is going to arrive in June and I can tell you she will lack for nothing and be so loved ! As for me, I think the tipping point in my life was August 9, 2017 - the day after the fire. Waking up at my mom’s with basically nothing, not even my cats. I won’t retell that whole story but that day and every one after it changed my life for the better. Another tipping point in my life was December 29, 2018 when I decided to sign up for Nutrisystem. I don’t know that losing weight will change my future but it is already making me feel better about myself. It’s nice to put something on, look in the mirror, and not want to cry.
Breakfast was a 2.1 ounce 180 calorie cinnamon roll with hazelnut coffee. No 2nd cup or Power Fuel today since I was going out. I did have my morning snack of a 155 calorie chocolate shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch and my afternoon snack consisted of the food at the baby shower. I had a salad consisting of field greens and a slice of cucumber with a bit of house dressing. The main course was chicken riggies so I had a small portion of that, along with a slice of roast beef. I skipped the homemade focaccia bread even though it smelled heavenly, because I just knew the meal was going to include pasta. I “quick logged” this as 2 Power Fuels and 2 Smart Carbs, for a total of 400 calories. This is the scary part of “flex” meals - it’s hard to really know how many calories you are taking in. For me it’s a slippery slope I’m not really ready to go down yet. There was no cake but it was at an Italian restaurant so they brought out a selection of delicious looking individually sized desserts. I stayed strong and didn’t indulge. I only drank water with lemon, even though the pink moscato lemonade sounded wonderful ! All in all I think I did ok, but I was hungry when I got home. So I cooked myself a bag of broccoli and ate the entire thing ! Truthfully, that pasta lunch left me feeling bloated and tired - even though I didn’t eat that much. My body is clearly used to higher fiber and higher protein meals. Dinner was a 7.5 ounce 240 calorie tub of chili with beans. It wasn’t bad but of course I’d rather have my own homemade chili ! Evening snack was a 130 calorie snickerdoodle cookie.
To counteract that post-lunch carbohydrate coma I forced myself off the couch and onto the treadmill before dinner. I felt great afterwards so it was a good idea ! I’m all set for the morning so I’m looking forward to a hot shower and my warm cozy bed.
Weather was cool today but the sun came out shortly after I got home, around 3 pm. Weather for the week ahead looks to be cool and rainy .. ugh ! Amazingly enough it’s nearly 8 pm and it’s still light out ! Hopefully the warm weather isn’t far behind !
