Day 109: What's Next ?

“Don’t rest on your laurels. Don’t count your past failures. The question should always be, What’s next?” ~Edmond Karmon Tour~
Words to live by today. Yesterday was a big accomplishment for me but there is still much work to be done, so I can’t sit back. That’s why it was important to me to work out last night, even though I worked out in the morning and took a walk after dinner. Too often in the past I would reach a certain point and then give up or allow myself to be distracted and just drift away from whatever I was trying to achieve. I always had plenty of excuses. I’m not willing to do that this time around. Getting on the treadmill last night “normalized” the day and will make it easier to stay on track. Some people may not agree with that or may think it’s too extreme, but it works for me and that’s all that matters. That’s not to say yesterday wasn’t hard. It was. I’d have liked a lot more green bean casserole. Or a bigger piece of lasagna. I’d have liked a big scoop of mashed potatoes and a roll dripping with butter. Not to mention homemade blueberry pie with ice cream. Or those delicious cookies everyone raved about. I wanted it all .. but I want to lose the weight more. That is the difference. I feel like the deviled eggs and the glass of wine were enough of an indulgence. I didn’t come away from the day feeling deprived nor did I feel like I overindulged or “cheated”. Same goes for all of the lovely comments people made on the photo I shared. Yesterday was really the first day I could “see” the results so I had to share my joy and I appreciate all of the kind words. Slipping on those new jeans was a proud moment. It was also a little surreal after so many years of being unhappy with the way I looked. I am one size away from those jeans I’ve held on to since 1997 and the day I can fit back into them is the day I can put the past 22 years behind me forever. The day I grow out of them again (because they’re too small!) will be the start of the next chapter. So that’s my next mini goal, once I achieve the 50 pound mark. I hope to hit (or surpass) the 50 pound mark when I weigh myself this weekend !
Breakfast today was a 2.1 ounce 160 calorie cherry cheese roll with hazelnut coffee. It’s Monday so a second cup was definitely needed – vanilla caramel cream ! Morning snack was a 155 calorie chocolate shake with peanut butter powder. Lunch was a 4.25 ounce 200 calorie turkey pot pie melt with raw carrots and an 80 calorie Sargento colby jack cheese stick. This was my leftover breakfast Power Fuel. Afternoon snack was a 180 calorie Sargento Balanced Breaks. This left me 423 calories for dinner and my evening snack, which was plenty. Dinner was an 8.5 ounce 250 calorie chicken and vegetable stir-fry. I added some leftover riced cauliflower and once I mixed it in you wouldn’t have even known it was there. My evening snack is a 1.3 ounce 150 calories package of white chocolate chunk cookies. They are delicious ! That puts my calories for the day at 1177.
Today started off gray and kind of gloomy but by afternoon the clouds had cleared, so the day ended with blue skies and sunshine. We only got up into the high 50’s so it wasn’t as warm as I’d have liked but I opened the sunroof and enjoyed the sun on the way home tonight anyways ! I stopped to get gas and thought about having the car washed ... but so did 3,596,171 other people .... so I’ll get mine washed another day !
Now that the weather is getting nicer and the yard is drying up I’m itching to get out there, clean up the winter debris and figure out what and where I’m going to plant things. I have to be mindful of the guy who mows for me since he uses a riding mower. I’m not going to do a lot this year, maybe a couple of pots on the back stoop and perhaps a couple of rose bushes or honeysuckle. We’ll see ! Next weekend will be busy so maybe by the following weekend it’ll be warm enough to think about being outside !
The first workout of the week is in the books and I feel great ! The incline workout gets a tiny bit easier each day. I don’t find myself watching the timer quite so early .. I’m usually close to 10 minutes in before I check to see where I am, and the workout lasts 32 minutes and 40 seconds. In the beginning I was looking before I even hit 3 minutes .. LOL ! I may move up to something a little bit more challenging next weekend. We’ll see !
I’ll be heading upstairs for a hot shower and warm cozy bed soon. I did not sleep as soundly as I usually do last night so I’m a little tired. I was very restless last night and couldn’t seem to get comfortable in my bed. That late workout may have revved up my mind and body just a little too much for sleep.
